So just curious what the opinions are on aftermarket upgraded alternators. which ones are good which ones are bad and where to get them from. I will be needing this upgrade soon.

I was sad that it died so quickly. It isn't common and the warranty from them speaks for itself. I have an upgraded 200A that has been in my truck for about 3 years now and I have been in mud, water, etc with no issue. I think it was just an unfortunate fluke.

Thanks folks. I've been impressed with the Toyota (Denso?) alternator since it just keeps working for me, despite my affinity for muddy puddles. Came close to getting hydro locked, twice.
My alternator finally seemed to have quit on the trail, but after taking the brush holder off and spraying it with brake cleaner I was back on the road again.

I do know reality, and it's on borrowed time. I've ordered a 31M battery on the group by and wonder if the factory alternator is going to be up to the task of charging it after camping with lights, etc.
But it's got to survive me! I'll check into the ones you suggested.

Anyone know what they do to "prepare" military alternators for use? The holes keep things cool, but the brushes don't like mud much.

Mechman is a very trusted name for alternators tho! And before buying anything other than OEM I would ask for an Amp chart from a bench test. You want those amps at idle, not redline

For anybody wondering how to calculate wattage your alternator is able to produce x amount of amps multiply that by y volts. People usually do 12 volts but when the engine's running you actually have 13 point something so the 130 amp alternator caps out around 1750 to 2,000 watts I don't know how many watts the truck takes without hearlights radio etc, just idling. But if you're looking to hook an inverter up, if you get one more than 2,000 w, you're running the risk of draining your battery dead even with the vehicle running without upgrading the alternator to a variable output, aftermarket one

Update. I do have a 2500 w inverter. I plan on hooking up to the battery for my trailer to provide heat lighting, run my gaming computer, etc. I'll park on a hill so I can pop start the vehicle if it dies while running so I can get a more definitive answer. My inverter will tell me how many watts I'm pulling

stock inverter is 400w. I can understand 1000w. 2000w probably won’t fit under console.

I don’t think people run lights on inverter. And they’re LED. Inverter powers bed socket outlet.
People probably wire lights into actual truck regular wiring powered by batt/alt.

I was talking about headlights not aftermarket lights but even so it still stands I'm talking about how many watts your alternator can output to the battery battery Powers everything even the inverter. The reason why I use Watts is so people can understand the flow out and the flow in easier since just about every electrical appliance is measured by watt consumption Even if they only tell you 12 volts this amount of amps wiring it in
