So I totaled my truck Saturday and need to get another, I found one about 2 hours from me, it is a 2012 with 150k miles, the body looks great and it’s priced at 15k, does this rust raise any alarms ? Is it something that fluid film and a wire wheel may fix?

Fluid film doesn't 'fix' anything. It prevents.

I have no thoughts re your photos, other than we've certainly seen worse looking posted.

For me an in person hammer and probe test would be needed, as they typically rust inside out.

Best of luck in your hunt!

Check the inside of the box frame behind the cats. Thats what usually rusts through due to temp changes and trapped moisture.

Most of what i see in the pics is minor. A converter and top coat will take care of it

    Is this a hole?

My suggestion to anyone looking to buy a used Tacoma: Invest $30.00 on an endoscope/borescope for your phone (Amazon has a plethora) and look inside the frame. It could look beautiful on the outside but terrible inside, and vice versa…..kind of eliminates the guess work.

Will this advice also work for saving money on a colonoscopy?

Only if the lead is long enough and you know what you're looking for.

You could make money, offer it as a side gig.

Plenty of holes to use…..or enter through the rear of the box section of the frame….if the probe is 36” or more you’ll get to see what you need.
I know this reply is loaded innuendos, sorry for the shit show that ensues this post. :anonymous:

I also like to check the inside of the C-channel near the leaf spring mounts (in the rear).
If it were me, I'd hop in the car and drive the two hours to personally look at it.

Like others have said: inside the C-Channel is where you want to look.

Looks like the majority of the rust showing is the frame welds. They (welds) were all like this on my truck when I got it, while the rest of the frame was fine and has passed several yearly inspections. I was told by a few folks that it is typical for the welds. I didn't like the appearance of them, so a little at a time I primed them and painted them with Rust-Oleum satin black. Same for the pumpkin, rear axle and a few front suspension parts.

Three years later and counting and it has held up very well.
