Morning all! Hopefully everyone had a great Thanksgiving and good luck to anyone going out shopping today! Think we are going to try and stay away from the stores.

Going to head up to Gettysburg later today and meet some friends for the tree lighting ceremony.

Morning all, off to a shitty morning here.

Woke up, took the pup out to pee, walked in the kitchen and heard the telltale sign of a leaking pipe in the wall. Went into the basement, saw the water leaking from above, fml… now water is turned off again and calls into plumbers… water in a little storage room and into the carpet.

Used a carpet shampooer to get up a good bit of the water in the carpet.

Luckily, it must not have been leaking long.

 

ah man that sucks. I had no idea it was supposed to get this cold this weekend.

 

I don’t think it was frozen. The pipe is in an interior wall. No idea besides that. They should be all copper in there what I can see going up is copper, at least.

 

Oh well that’s interesting. Yikes. I hope it’s a quick fix and a plumber gets out there quickly!

 

Hope it all works out quickly today with plumber and water restored.

Whatcha gonna do to dry the carpet?

I’ve got a carpet shampooer that has been working pretty good. Got it a couple years ago with new carpet to try and keep it clean with pets.

 

This sucks man… you’ve had quite the run with water issues lately. Hopefully this is the last of it. Good thing you had the insight to recognize it immediately before it got out of control. Good call on the carpet machine to get the access water up too! I swear, this kind of sh*t always happens at the worst times (holidays).

 

Sure does… some of the carpet from the other day must not have been fully dry and smells musty. I’ll have to use the shampooer fully on that. I was just using it as suction lol.

Definitely a good idea to use the shampooer and I know places like Home Depot will rent floor fans and heavy duty dehumidifier’s for this type of thing… help get that moisture out before it sets in.

 

Thanks and good ideas. I just used baking soda on the damp parts and let it sit for a while after sucking up a bunch of water. I’ll use the actual shampooer portion of it tomorrow and see how it goes. The carpet that got wet from the water heater leaking smells a bit musty but isn’t damp anymore. The other is mostly dry too.

Really lucky it I caught it early and it was low inside the wall. The plumber was able to cut a hole behind the fridge to get to the leak. Being a low leak, it didn’t damage any drywall and only got the joists wet. Carpet being wet was kept at a minimum, relatively speaking. The storage room where it leaked into is concrete flooring and besides a couple cardboard boxes, only bins are on the floor.

If it wasn’t for my puppy waking me up so she could go out, I might have slept in today too. She’s the reason it was caught early. Gave her lots of extra treat for it too!

 

For being in a situation like this… it sounds like you made “best case scenario” in every possible way. And good on Miss Maple for her insight!!
