2019 Tacoma SR5. I have 78,000 miles on the truck and did a drain fill on the coolant today, (radiator and block). I used Peak red/pink for Asian vehicles. Burped the system drove it around a few miles no issues. My question is, is that coolant OK to use in this truck?

I thought it was. All this maintenance besides oil changes is new to me, just want to use the right parts and do a good of a job as I can so the truck will last. Thanks!

Good thing to verify, but most get this type of assurance prior to doing the work, not after! :)

still check it after a few days may still have a couple of burps left. fill right the the line and it should never drop below'
mine started to drop below just slightly from time to time then i discovered i had the famous cross over pipe leak.
had that fixed and stays right at the fill mark now.

What's the price diff of Toyota vs Peak? Sometimes OEM is nearly the same price as Peak or Prestone so you don't get the mixing hinkies.

Good question, oem is very reasonable, and is the best IMHO.

Thanks for the input and advice. I used peak because it was available and I have limited free time so I wanted to get it done. Thanks.

Assuming it’s the red pink stuff, it’s fine.

The name “Peak red/pink for Asian vehicles” makes me think of a porn site more than antifreeze.

What exactly is special about this antifreeze that makes it specific to Asian automobile brands?

My guess is that there is nothing special about the cooling systems in Asian branded automobiles, but there is a difference in what the various brands recommend for coolant.

Some limited reading suggests that some modern coolants are not compatible with each other (e.g, OAT vs HOAT), so it seems important to not mix them. If you completely drain the current coolant, mixing of non-compatible coolants is not an issue.

    Thread resurrection.
Asian coolants do not have silicates (hard on the seals and water pumps), or 2-EHA, like Dexcool (aka Deathcool). They use Phosphate, instead of silicates and use a different organic acid for protection. Some organic acid are plasticizers (2-EHA is one of the more infamous one). They will soften up and melt plastics.
PS Never mix All Makes/All Models coolant. It has 2-EHA and silicates and it WILL gel up in your coolant system.
