Well.. the deal is done. Heading out to Cali next week to pick up our new toy! My uncle lives right in the area where it was being sold.. so I had him go over and check it out with another old school Toyota buddy of his. Crawled around it. Test drove it. And gave the seller a down payment from me after we settled on a price. Worked out perfectly between the seller needing to get rid of it due to having issues with the Cali Smog BS and my uncle living right there. In fact.. my uncle sent me the listing for this one over a month ago. I didn't even think twice about it because it was in Cali and at the time I was looking at others locally. I found it again after the other local offers fell through, weren't worth it, or sold. It was meant to be I guess..

1986 4x4 4Runner Sr5 with.. the 22re Turbo, R151F 5 speed manual swap from a 86/87 Turbo pickup, and a Toyota/trail gear solid axle swap with a Spartan locker up front, and a 3rd Gen 4runner with factory e-locker rear axle swap. Was built as if you could order it with any/custom option back then. It's incredibly clean inside and out. The interior is complete. Has all the factory Sr5 and turbo goodies. Inclinometer, turbo seats, digital turbo gauge cluster, etc. Should be a good ol nostalgic time driving it back home.. can't wait.

It's lust a VIN/trim check. It'll say that for every vehicle that didn't come with a part as standard. I'm pretty sure it uses the same threaded holes that everyone else uses.

    Hey guys.

used to have a house in old town Scottsdale and looking to move back to the state.

Anywhere specific that you guys would recommend that is like more oriented towards the outdoorsman in the Phoenix metro?

I’ve been looking at Apache Junction but I always recall that area getting a bad wrap.

    any input is appreciated

Good news for driving around town are new "interstate" sections for easier access to some city sections. "202" which runs east-west ... lower section starting at I-10 near downtown, runs east to almost AJ, then has a north section runs west again. "101" runs from Chandler north to N Scottsdale, west then south again to I-10. "303" from I-17 around CaveCreek then west and south again to join I-10.

I do not like the look of streets/houses/mobile-homes in AJ. But I can only speak for me. Close to Superstitions, but there are houses east of AJ along 60.

CaveCreek and north-Scottsdale is still nice, closer to getting out-of-town ... but I-17 is a constant construction zone at least for another few months.

Chandler is nice for living but you need to drive to reach out-of-city ... another person in AZ-TW says they will be renting a house in Chandler-downtown area and another says they will be renting in Mesa, but Mesa has dodgy areas.

West Valley (Tolleson, Goodyear, Buckeye) are closer with Buckeye being almost into the desert by itself.

House prices are ridiculous everywhere, rental prices are ridiculous everywhere ... just look at "realtor.com".

I don’t disagree compared to when I bought my last home but they’re honestly not much worse than what I’m seeing where I currently live.

just have to be more deliberate. I don’t seem myself ever affording south Scottsdale again… sadly.

Oh I know it’s perfect. I lived there for years. I’m so jealous. Meanwhile I’m freezing my balls off back on the east coast like a idiot

    Yeah pee on his shit!

I moved from Oldtown to AJ and you get a lot more bang for your buck, but far from the city a lot of old people and miserable slow snow birds and then there’s still some good trash floating around. All my neighbors are dope and super nice though and I’m so close to getting out in the desert I go a lot more now than before even just for morning hikes. If I could afford anywhere I would pick Chandler/Tempe/Awatukee just for being closer to the airport and prettier people.

yeah I really just want the crappiest house in a nice neighborhood. Something that isn’t more than like 400k and without an HOA if I can. I see these type of houses listed but I’m unsure of the areas or underlying condition. Really hard to figure out when I’m 2200 miles away.

I'm partial to the Northern area of Phoenix.
Cave Creek, Carefree, New River, Desert Hills, Anthem (current house). I'd live in Black Canyon City in a heartbeat if they get their Meth under control. I hear it is migrating to Payson.

HOA is the bug. Damn-near-everywhere has HOA ... Ahwatukee has many areas in walking distance on the edge of has some that make proctologists look gentle ... I rent in Ahwatukee currently. North toward Carefree/CaveCreek may be better about HOAs. Chandler has too long a drive for morning desert hikes in my opinion ... and I lived there for 3 years. I will concede to others about AJ ... there are plenty of big-box stores just a couple of miles west in east-Mesa so you have access to big-city shopping.

@KingOfTheNorth has such strong opinions about city-living and its invasive tendencies he currently lives miles away from such influences where there is actual snow in winter. He has ideas you may want to listen to as well.

I just want to be back in Arizona and not freeze my balls off. I also don’t want a mortgage of half a million.

I bought my south Scottsdale home for 275k in 2014. I know those days are gone but man… idk how realistic it is to get back there with these housing prices.

I’ve been eyeballing Camp Verde… and I’ve always liked payson… even tho it has 4 seasons

Camp Verde gets almost as hot as Phoenix in the summer but then they get snow in the winter. Its pretty much the worst of both worlds. It does have some good stuff though like proximity to trails, higher mountains, wineries, Verde River running through town etc.
