I would prefer not to tie to my battery, deal with any electrical modification to run a mobile gmrs

Can someone tell me if this unit is okay to run for cigg plug or one that is within that threshold?

I will do a nice antenna setup and most likely mount this somewhere low on side console velcro Maybe or under seat or just out of view somewhere for theft and concealability. I also wouldn't need or use this to justify hardwiring.

I have gm30 radiditty btw and love them

Your cig plug in the Tacoma will run up to 120 watts, this is 20 watts.

The radio puts out 20W and will draw a little more just for operation. Lets call it 23 watts. If you want to be more precise, those details are available in the information n that website before you buy it.

Your Cig Plug off your battery is going to be running around 13ish volts.

    Volts * Amps = Watts
    Or
    Watts / Volts = Amps

    So 23w / 13v = 1.79ish or so Amps.

You should be good to go.

It's the 50w radios that really start to get dicey and iffy.

I hear ya! We are exact opposites. I'm a PM too and I can't stand the finance. I handle all of the electrical and programming stuff. Have a Financial Analyst tagged in to my projects to make the $$$ come out right.

If you download the owners manual you'll see it calls for a 10A or greater power supply. So, as others have said, you should be fine.

    Thanks for looking into that

Can I get a you'll definitely be fine haha? Or is it actually close? Maybe someone runs a cig plug setup that's definitely lower watts like the popular midland?

You will definitely be fine. You meet the requirements published in the owner's manual.
