I know what you mean. I've called those tech support numbers and got left hanging on the line too. Try not to get all hot under the collar and steamed up. In the end, they'll either fold, or you'll get soaked. It's quite a soap opera.

    OOOLD. non-high-efficency.

i went out of my way to get an 'antique' mechanical timer washing machine. dead simple, and parts are still easily available. my dryer is slightly fancier, being a dryness-sensing model, but is still very simple. i believe the dryness sensing isn't even a computer chip, it's a mechanical delay circuit... but either of them i can easily work on with a few tools, and a hammer if needed.

watch facebook marketplace, or check the more, um, 'questionable' sides of town. my area has a few hole-in-the-wall places that sell used appliances that made it easier to pick up an antique model that just works instead of something that requires internet access and a programming degree to use.

Back in the oil patch days I moved on average every 3 months. Back then even small towns had 1 or even 2 Laundromats, some open 24/7. Those machines took a beating but I rarely saw more than 1 that was out of order. Maytag & Speed Queen is pretty much all I saw with the odd Amana. I went Maytag & yeah, only basic hand tool are needed to work on it. Nothing digital or circuit board but it always worked.
