Quick, spur of the moment POTA activation yesterday morning at a local park. Trying out a buddies beam antenna made out of 4 ham sticks and an electrical ceiling light box. I might have to make me one. We shut down after about 45 minutes but 20m was still hopping when we did.

N7DE and K7SEN, neither one is named Greg so I missed you.

    Don't know either of them.
N7DE looks familiar but when I looked him up he's from Seattle so maybe a Snowbird sown here for the winter.

    I'm N5MKH and occasionally W7CRT.
Mostly running digital on JS8-Call so I can have Asynchronous Comms. I don't have to be next to the radio to talk to someone. It's like checking text messages over 40M / 20M. But occasionally I hop on voice.

N7DE could be a snowbird, I double checked his callsign when I was logging it as I saw the Seattle pop up. He was doing an activation at DeadHorse Ranch State Park so that may be his winter nesting grounds.

I’m still new to the hobby, Tech in August and General in October so I haven’t gotten in to the digital modes yet. My current radio is an old IC-706Mk2G so I would need a sound card before I can start that. I’m sure it will happen pretty soon lol. I need to get a good antenna set up at the house before I go down that rabbit hole. I’m currently operating off of my portable mast and a wire for now.

    Btw, I’m KQ4UJN

That IC-706Mk2G is an AMAZING Radio.
When you are ready to jump into digital check out the Digi-Rig. It makes the whole process a lot easier.

With looming tariffs, I think I'm finally going to buy a decent mobile radio. The FT150RASP looks like the choice, and I think I'm gonna grab a FT60R as well.

Looking for some advice from the HAM guru’s on here. Have an Icom f5021 (use for open desert stuff only) and have had people tell me my tx sounds terrible. Recently purchased an SWR to troubleshoot. Well, the readings are off the chart (19.9999) with tx output being a fraction of the available 50w.
What are some troubleshooting tips to remedy my issue(s)?
    Thank you.

Lets start with a few questions to dial this in...
    What's your Call?
    What's your antenna and cable?
    Where is the antenna mounted?
What's the frequency you are operating on?
Are you running simplex or into a repeater?

+ how is it powered, is it direct to the battery or is it through a fuse panel or switch panel?
