Official TSB for automatic trans failure from Toyota.

It operates on the premise that whoever bought it had any idea about the transmission issue. The dealer's certainly not going to volunteer it and likely would just say that Toyota will fix it if something happens. Which they will, though the timeframe might not be particularly favorable.

Precious few people do any actual research about the vehicles they buy. They often pick a brand name they like, a model they like the look of and (usually) fits their lifestyle, and take whatever the dealer has on the lot that they can handle the payments for. Even color doesn't seem to particularly matter, given the veritable sea of white, black, and silver cars on the road.

Sure, but they can be a little more creative than what every other person buys.

 

Absolutely. Plus, if they have problems, it would benefit them to experience a complete failure with the codes rather than having to drive a truck that, frankly, isn't very enjoyable to drive.

 

Here in Canada these trucks are very hard to get,almost all are presold before hitting the dealer and there is no TSB from Toyota concerning the transmissions.Also no discounts where I live

 

i have always only liked neutral colors for my vehicles. i suspect i am not alone in that.

Statistics seem to indicate that people prefer white, black, and silver in that order. Watch as you drive down a freeway or by a parking lot. You'll see only the occasional other color. Because of this preference, pretty much all dealers stock are those colors. Which means that's all people can buy unless they're willing to order something. Statistics also seem to indicate that most buyers aren't willing to order a car and will usually settle for what's in stock. As such, the statistics are a self fulfilling prophecy.

We're drifting back toward Henry Ford's "you can have any color you want as long as it's black." Time is a flat circle.

 

I decided to go big rather than going home with this one. All the cars I've owned up to this point have been used, so color was a lower priority than condition and certain features. Aside from a couple blue ones and the one green one, most have ended up being white, with a couple being silver. I'm sick of the same damned color. Plus, I appreciate being able to see the truck in the parking lot from the door whenever I come out of someplace.

I can appreciate how someone might not want it to stand out that much. I mean, I suspect you could see it from orbit. It's somewhat outside of "subtle" and "under the radar." It's not for everybody.

 

Correct. I requested and was approved for a color change (SS Red) since I already have two silver Lexus in my driveway. Gray scale is boring so I waited.

 

Its crazy what we have to go through just to give our money for truck we want, but hey i did it. Now im waiting on my vin # lol

Been awhile? There was 1 that got stuck in 2nd gear outside of the TSB vin range on another forum last week.

 

Transmission and torque converter failure seems to be a major problem in most brands right now. Just got rid of a GMC Sierra with a bad torque converter at 40,000 miles. (Debris issue and a $7000.00 fix for a new torque converter) I'm looking at a 2024 Tacoma but these posts are making me nervous. Fords, GMs and now Toyota?? GM has a class action lawsuit currently for bad transmissions and a family Ford F150 is also having transmission problems.

 

There were quite a few failures earlier this year. And a few lingering that are in the TSB range. In my opinion you’re still far less likely to have a problem with a Toyota vs the competition. There still will be failures, there is no way to manufacture automobiles with 100% reliability.

 

Hasn't there already been a couple that are outside of the vin range that failed?

 

There have been a couple of reports, but the ones I’ve seen lacked a lot of detail. One dude refused to disclose his full vin. Seemed odd.

The guys reply was, "I think so?"
