Back to the grind tomorrow. Not really a grind as I have a bunch of smaller jobs lined up for the next three weeks and that'll be a wrap for 2024. I'm taking Christmas and New Year's weeks off. And it's the end of year 5 of this self employment journey/adventure.

Took a cruise up near the Canadian (Quebec) border today. Wanted to run the Green Bean before it goes into storage for the week.

How did you get started? I'm at a cross roads, my contract job ended about 6 weeks ago, there is absolutely ZERO work in my field around here, or within an hour daily commute. I need to get something going. I've done some "handy man" type of jobs for friends and friend referrals, but there isn't enough new sink faucets or Johnny rings to be replaced to be able to count on anything. I'm too slow to build decks for anyone else, lol.

After my corporate career came to an end at the end of 2019, I made the decision to not go back. I had been doing carpentry/handyman type work for friends and family for most of my adult life. I have a neighbor who is a painter. He was getting older, having some heath issues and got me my first job building some garage stairs. I helped him on some larger painting jobs too. I had another friend who was a general contractor (and getting out of the business to be a farmer) and would toss me smaller jobs (which is what I prefer as it's just me). And I had friends & family that wanted things done. Then (and it still is) it was all just word of mouth, referrals, etc. I don't advertise nor do I have social media other than posting some projects on my personal FB page.

Don't worry about speed. Customers would rather have it done right versus fast. The labor is the same, whether it's a crew of 3 taking 4 days or me taking 12 days. If the customer is OK with a longer timeframe, then it's all good. I'm always upfront about that. Sometimes they are in a rush, but most often they are okay with my timeframe, most because I was referred by someone they know....so it's a trust thing.

Would have to check my Techstream on the truck to be sure if the trans temp 2 reading would work. In summer…
