With the 6th gen T4R sharing the common chassis/drivetrain with the Taco, I'd expect a lot more of the parts to be interchanged between the 2 vehicles. I'm sure that the T4R will have different fabrics and such, but very similar to a Taco. Think about the way that GM shares parts between full size trucks and SUV's.

Has anyone been keeping up with the 4th gen Taco forum, the guy that had his engine grenade with only a few thousand miles on it? He lemon lawed it and is waiting for Toyota to take it back and hand him a check. The stealership magically "fixed" the engine with unobtainium parts and he took the truck back, waiting for the buyback. He drove the truck and it grenaded again within a few hundred miles.

And that’s what I’m talking about. The 4.0 was and still is a great motor… the 3.5 is nice as well, but I don’t think they’ll have the longevity of the 4.0. As for the new 4cyl turbo? It’s underpowered and over worked. The purpose of forced induction is make more power where natural aspiration can’t. Just because it’s better on fuel and emissions (thanks California) doesn’t make it better. I rather Toyota have given me 2 more cylinders than strip two more away! Can you imagine a Tacoma with a Tundra 5.7 motor from the factory?? I can, I dream of it often!! I’d go write a deposit check for one now if it was an option!!

I just read an article that FB showed me on the LC and 4R. Lost of the same size specs. The LC is 6-7” taller.

I think the interior of the 4R and Tacoma are really close, I’ve been looking at pics on another site about it. I think it said the TH has the same in both models. Maybe the prices will be a lot closer. I think Toyota is going to over saturate the market with all these similarly priced SUVs though. Highlander and grand Highlander, rav4s, 4R, LC, Corolla cross, crown and the sequoia. The prices do go higher as the models get nicer but still seems like a lot.

I don’t know why I’m even looking, just boredom I guess lol.

Erm... After driving one for almost 8 months I can tell you it is definitely not under-powered. It blows both the 4.0 and 3.5 away. Also, it hardly ever is at boost cruising along, so it is hardly stressed. I don't miss either V6's honestly and I've owned two of both.

It doesn't help that every manufacturer ( including Toyota) calls every car derived AWD vehicle an SUV. Even boobaroo calls their outback wagon an SUV..

Back in 2015 a fully loaded TRD ran around $35k. Shit has effectively doubled in cost over a 10 year span.
Let us know when you’ve had enough and are moving up to a V8 :boink:

Here’s a 25 at a dealer, I’ll watch the video but doubt the price is listed- No window stickers on the video so must be 1,000,000

I totally get your point… but that said, take away the turbo, and the engine you’re left with rubbish for a truck. Basically a 4cyl Camry motor. Slap a turbo or supercharger kit on a v6 Tacoma and it’ll run circles around the new ones. Toyota knew to get the “eco friendly” stamp, they needed a smaller engine… but the also knew that to sell them, it couldn’t be underpowered… hence the turbo. Mud, snow, ice or sand is not a friend to hi-rev power… and once that turbo spoils up to full boost, you get tire spin.

I like the new body… even if it looks like a Frontier (they look ok too). The interior is beautiful in the nicer equipped models. And I love the fact that you can finally fit 35’s with just suspension and minimal plastic trimming.

That all said, I’m just not onboard with what Toyota is doing… I’m not a fan of making bigger and overpriced vehicles while using smaller motors.
