Broken Air filter housing tab

Hi everyone. I have a 2022 Tacoma and noticed that a plastic tab for one of the corners of the air filter housing for the engine is broken. It has 29,000 miles. Would Toyota cover replacement under warranty?

 

Broken parts are not warranty issues. Who did the last air filter change?

 

I would guess, broken is likely on you as it wasn’t a failure. I would give them a call or drop by and see.

 

The dealer covered a new airbox due to a a broken air filter tab on our Camry, but did so begrudgingly.
They would have, however, been in their rights to deny it.

Obviously it didn't break itself..

 

In the days of my youth, I had an old Yota truck that had a screwed up filter box just like the OP is describing. I kept it shut and sealed with a small C-clamp. Ah, the good old days!

 

Sounds like you did things up proper.
I remember panty hose and a rubber band..

The quickie lube places are notorious for screwing these up. Someone at our office took the bait for oil change (and other maintenance) savings from Jiffy Lube, and they broke tabs on the air box of multiple company trucks. Before myself and others showed the decision makers all the damage and hassles we had with them, I was at the point I had to tell them to just change the oil and don't touch anything else.

my 2022 w/ 30k miles on it was broken when i bought it, noticed it the next day. luckily it wasn't broken off all the way. I'll never have a dealer or anyone else servicing it so I don't think it will become an issue. Its a bit of a bear to line up 100% correct w/o having it bind up when clipping it down so I understand why it would happen but the design sucks.
