Just a note. I have a 3rd gen Tundra as well. It is known on them that if you lift them more than 2.5 inches with the black axles the cv will pop out and fuck everything up like what happened to you. The Tundra has 3 different types of CV axles. Black for stock size trucks. Red for TRD equipped trucks and silver for the TRD lift kit trucks. The Red and silver axles are a little longer so the inner cv doesn't fall out. Those are the ones you would need. It always happens in 4wd like yours did. This could be the same issues as Tundra since they are all on the same platform. Looks like you have black axles as well. So if i had to guess thats exactly what happened with yours. If your lifted 2.5 or higher.

Sounds like a lifted truck with over extended CV axle that popped out. I hate to say it, but I think Toyota is 100% right by not covering it.

I can easily see how it would be 5000 in repairs. The CV axle pops out binds snapped the axle and tears up the front differential housing.

100% it drooped out too far while turned all the way in reverse and the CV over extended.

Not Toyota's fault IMO. Maybe Icon for having too long of an extended length coilover for the stock CV.

Great looking truck. Sorry you are having this issue.

Hindsight being 20/20, it seems 4wd reverse was unneeded combined with the full lock right wheel.

I hope Toyota pays the bill but I have my doubts. Unfortunately, this might be a life lesson. I would not be happy either.

That is the winning answer; I will take the blame for making a rookie mistake.
Should the warranty cover the break?

No, the blame is on the lift, unfortunately. Without it, you would probably have made the turn in reverse, in 4wd, at full lock just fine.

As suggested, try another dealer? Remember slow is fast.

Factory warranty covers defects. This is not a defect.

Do you have a diff drop installed OP?

I see Icon says they're required for that coilover. :notsure:

I love the honesty in taking ownership of making a mistake; afterall we're only human. :fistbump:

My experience in having run a dealership, that'd be a NO.

The only way I could see this getting by is if you were good friends with a service manager and they were able to "good will" it.

Toyota warrantees their vehicles for what comes from their factories. When major modifications are done, how much can you expect Toyota to cover when things break? The threads on this and other forums are filled with suspension modifications. I guess it would be wise before going down that road (no pun intended) to see if your plans would violate the vehicle's warranty. Or, would your after market parts supplier and installer cover damages such as this? In this case, looks like the aftermarket modification damaged a Toyota part (crankcase). Could have been a lot worse if the damage wasn't immediately discovered. All the oil leaks out and now you need a new engine. Would have been more than $5000, and who would pay?
