A couple months back I had made some posts about doing maintenance to my daughter's truck before she moved across the country. Everything went fine with that but I get a call last night and a video of the entire front of the engine covered in oil!

So of course I immediately told her do not start the car under any circumstances until you buy a bunch of oil and her boyfriend is ready to finally leak!

    ***

It seems to be definitely oil and not transmission fluid. It's not red and the dipstick shows the oil level below the first mark.

I'll attach a video but wherever the oil is leaking from seems to be in the front of the engine and is getting sprayed everywhere from the belt and pulleys.

My immediate assumption was it's coming from a loose oil filter, oil fill cap, etc... But from what she's told me and what I can tell from the video, all that seems fine.

Could anyone to point me in the right direction of things to check where Oil could leak onto the front of the engine or get on to the pulleys, etc...

    ***

This afternoon I'll have more information and hopefully a clearer video. I told them to try to clean off as much oil as possible so it's easier to find the leak to buy a bunch of oil and make sure they fill it up before they attempt to start the vehicle again to find where it's coming from.

First thing that popped into my mind is to look at the oil cooler if you have the towing package.

Typically oil pressure switch failures cause this. It's hard to say without seeing it in person.

    Usually the oil sprays everywhere.

Well the belts still on there.
So it "probably" not the front crank seal.

I'd have to go with Bishop on the is one.
The pressure switch would be my first "go to".

It's right here. (Thanks @Coupe . I stole your picture)

    Lots baby!
Besides what has already been mentioned above, there is a pipe plug under the oil filter housing. I think it is 1" npt (pretty large). I would say it is doubtful, but if it backed out it would make a hell of a mess.

Your movie did not show the oil pressure switch, so it is hard to rule that out, without seeing it.

If it is the crank seal, you should have a big spot of oil under the crank pulley. If this is the culprit, the seal can cut a groove in the pulley shaft. Just putting a new seal won't fix it. You will need a new crank pulley or the cheaper fix is to sleeve the crank pulley.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS! SHE GOT LUCKY. It was easy to fix and she caught it in time and didn't blow the motor!
