    Hello all,

This is my first post so let me know if this isn’t allowed.

I live in the rust belt and recently bought a 2004 Tundra and didn’t inspect it well enough, the frame was bad so I am trying to learn from my mistakes.

I have attached photos provided of the frame and undercarriage for a 2010 Tacoma I am in talks with the seller.

I am thinking this frame is a no go, but I also don’t want to be unreasonable so I am looking for another opinion.

It looks like they coated the frame with something and there’s rust growing under it. If it’s an oily coating, that could possibly be woolwax as it’s black but this is a guess at best. The area of most failure is on the inside of the frame next to the catalytic converters. Next spot is the rear rails with rust forming in the laminations.

Definitely would be a no for me. I have dealt with rust issues and holes with my frame and it doesn't look anywhere near that crusty/flakey.

Run Forrest run ! Anyway...You live in the rust belt...Gonna be tough finding a non-roached frame up there. If your heart is set on a used Taco you might want to consider finding a nice southern example and investing a few vacation days to check one out. I have friends that have done this looking for British sports care from the 70's...

Just a thought on buying a used 2nd gen. If you can find one that's still within the "2 years from first in service date" window, at least you can get your friendly local Toyota dealer to inspect - and maybe replace the frame. The next best option is one that's already had the frame replaced. The absolute best option is one that's never seen salt.

If you have the means, find one that isn't in a rust belt state and fly there and drive it back. That's what I would do. Or grab a buddy and make a road trip.
