About the time my ex-wife and I started dating we'd go drive though the country after dark and shine fields. Not the most legal but killed a lot of yotes. And would stop and fuk and didn't run off any deer doing it.:D

I was being a smartass. Nor do I.

I second this. I’ve shot and had deer in front of me within a couple hours. I also will often sit sun up to sun down when I go home to hunt so taking a shot won’t typically pull me from a stand.

Crazy thing about yotes (I shoot them every time I see em) is that when you kill one, the females immediately go into heat. It’s a wild survival mechanism I’ve read about. So technically killing them may be adding to the problem.

If it’s not true, don’t crucify me. I’ve read several articles about it that seem legit

I shoot yotes whenever I can too.

I wish I knew someone or an outfit that bought the pelts. Normally I leave them in the dirt. I could have made a solid penny off the amount of coyotes I’ve killed.

I've had deer walk out within 15 minutes of shooting coyotes more than once. People shoot guns in the woods all the time. The deer don't go into hiding just because they hear a gunshot. Coyotes kill deer. They are my competition. I prefer to do the deer killing. That's my mindset. I kill both.

Won't those deer in my freezer feel funny when they find out I wasn't really deer hunting.

When I lived and hunted in Germany, in many places hunters were expected to shoot fox if they saw them. They carry more diseases over there and are more than just a nuisance. Many land owners wouldn't invite you back out if they learned you passed on a fox while deer/stag/pig hunting. We shot every fox we saw and still seemed to do well on every thing else.

Hunted off the deck the last two evenings. Didn’t see any deer. When I stood up yesterday to go back to the shop there was a grey fox standing on the other side of the chicken coop. Couldn’t get a shot at it, maybe next time.

I have access to *REAL* Schnapps from Austria (not the fake stuff they sell here).
I have a shot of it after a kill.

I bet the real schnapps is great. At camp our tradition is we all bring a new good bottle, then pour everyone a healthy drink after getting a deer. The other tradition is the first buck’s innerloins are part of dinner that night.

Thats kinda the whole point of killing them... they kill deer, they spook deer, their presence alone is enough to keep deer from potentially coming into range; so kill em. Nobody has to insult your intelligence on the topic, you're doing that yourself. Whether you're on a green field, in hardwoods, hunting cutover, etc, how many times have you fired off a rifle and other deer in sight run a few feet and freeze, not knowing what just happened? A gunshot (especially in big woods) is disorienting. They rarely know what direction it came from. Shooting a coyote (or even another deer) doesn't exactly ruin your opportunity to see another deer the rest of your hunt. If you don't want to shoot them, cool, dont. No ones giving you a hard time for not, so why you being an ass to those who do?

Believe it’s food availability that drives it but removing them still impacts that, so a moot point right? I’m still shooting every one I see in an effort to control them. No way they will ever be eliminated. Control maybe. I do know that the first 5 years I lived here I couldn’t get more than a hat full of figs off my fig bushes. Since trapping coons, possums and skunks the last two years I’ve been getting more like 20 gallons of figs off the same bushes. Not apples to oranges but maybe an example of attempt to control.

Yea that’s a fair point. We are overrun with all of those plus pigs destroy anything and everything. It’s a shitshow on my land in Texas some years.

I’m headed back in January to kill off some hogs and yotes with the thermal. My entire property looks like that pic now that it’s been a full year since anyone has actively hunted the pigs.

I forget the German word, but it translated to settling shot. A shot of schnapps prior to the hunt to help the aim. I always passed, but the older German hunters wore a shot glass on a leather strap around their neck and found many reasons to use it.
