They put a TRD lift on a SR5 and had a Youtuber talk about how it had longer CV's and 2.5" Bilstien shocks and how you would be able to put any parts from the Pro or Trail Hunter on any model and they would be warrantied if installed by Toyota.

Except that was just a big fat lie because you CANT GET ANY OF IT.

The truck has been out almost a year- 100k + sold and nobody can even tell you when itll be available.

They even had a display at SEMA with the imaginary TRD lift kit with an x'd out part number on it because its all a big fake
Better trade it in for a Frontier if you want Fox Bilstien or OME shocks-

Toyota will have a new Gen Taco out before you can get any thing they promised.

Until then just make sure you by that diff drop and some plates for the top of your prolapsing mickey mouse shocks.

This is a snowflake 4x4 truck now- F'n Subaru's and Ridgelines are tougher trucks.

It’s a vehicle designed as is by its engineers. Unless it is a Toyota engineered part or one Toyota engineers endorse it voids the warranty period and that is true regardless of make.

as far as availability I had no problem having my factory lift with fox shocks installed at the dealer when I bought my 21..

But factory lift parts not be available really has nothing to do with them not honoring aftermarket parts installed by others.

 

Toyota hosted all these press events and paid the tubers to sell this lie.

Yes you can get a lift for a 21' from Toyota but not a 24.

Are you planning to install a lift and ignore the aftermarket manufacturer's instructions regarding an important bracket?
And then drive in an imprudent manner by backing up at full lock while in 4WD going from a low traction surface to a high traction surface?

Your example would be an equivalent to a situation where there was no fuel available for your new truck. And it just sat there, totally useless.

Don’t be butt hurt because Toyota addressed a lot of the third GEN shortcomings. Better seating position, no more gear hunting, etc. for many years that Tacoma was at the bottom of all the midsize truck reviews. It is a much better truck than it was, hopefully reliability will be there.

 

I am not but hurt. I personally think the 24 don’t look as good, and they went to a more problematic engine setup simply because they won’t figure out their mpg for emissions. No reason a Toyota should not get 20 mpg with a v6 when full size trucks with a v8 can do it.
What they really should do is go diesel but I digress with a wish list.

I actually don’t have a cart in the race as I need to sell mine as It’s just not big enough for my needs anymore.

 

I do agree that the third GEN is a better looking truck, but the fourth GEN is starting to grow on me. A turbo four-cylinder is not necessarily less reliable as long as it is designed this way from the beginning. The Germans have been doing four-cylinder turbos for many years now. Those cars drive trains are fairly reliable, it’s the rest of it that falls apart. I do not understand why Toyota could not get good mileage out of the third GEN. I am easily getting 20% better gas mileage out of this Tacoma than my last two.

 

As a former Toyota parts and service director, I wouldn’t have considered that normal wear and tear. Now, if you were unpleasant to my staff I may have declined coverage due to modification, which I’d have reasonable cause with a 3.5” lift. But if you were decent, I may have worded the claim in such a way to get it through.

You can request a meeting with the factory rep. The dealer service manager can arrange that. If that fails take both the dealer and Toyota to small claims court together. Make sure everything that is done from here on out is documented on a repair order, even the meeting with the factory rep. The one with the most paper typically wins.

I’d find a blank specimen of Toyota’s extended warranty contract, Toyota Extracare. It usually lists what items are specifically covered in each category. If Toyota truly considers a CV a wear and tear item it won’t be listed as a covered component in the service agreement. If you do find it listed(as I suspect you will) you just tanked their defense. Follow me?

Yep, I took a test drive of both the auto and manual in a 2019 and gave it a hard pass. A truck should not need to be at 3,000+ rpms to make shit happen, my S/C'd 2005 even loaded with the camper on it completely ghosted it, just no comparison.

I have a Trailhunter on order so I am keeping a close eye on how it is doing with some good weight on it, like a camper.

As for the OP with the CV joint...is this your first 4WD vehicle? Sorry to sound harsh, but...wtf?

Nothing is without fault, but toyota KNOWS that these are going to be lifted buy a pretty big group of people and its obvious given past performance from toyota that they had no issues with it.... but hey lets put cast aluminum retainers for upper shock mounts with built in bumpstops that sounds like a REALLY reliable solution. You have to admin that their are drastic design flaws on the 4th gen.

You couldnt pay me to buy a current toyota truck and I have loved the brand and their trucks for DECADES.

 

So, the big 3 should put better transmissions in their diesel trucks, because everyone tuned them?
