I was really dumb cause I felt the vibration getting worse but I just figured it was cause I was going 80. I could’ve caught it if I pulled over to investigate. Oh well, I guess I made my bed and now I have to sleep in it. Ugh I’m such an idiot with car stuff.

It's an interesting failure for sure. The ujoint seems like the culprit although one would love to pull the trans to see what it took out in there. You would think of it was just the driveshaft popping out it would've had a no real resistance on the trans. Also, why was it short? I ordered an OEM one and it fit great.

It was a custom piece from a local shop and they failed to account for the lift when they made it. I was hoping to have Zane's driveshaft guy make me a new one. I did recently have the pinion seal replaced; I wonder if he didn't reinstall the driveshaft correctly?

Custom??? Why not oem? Mine was $600 for a flange to flange unit.

I don't really get how this is an issue, you said before it was built to VIN, everyone isn't going out and getting custom driveshafts when they lift their truck 2". They built it to oem standards so it should be fine.

Theres a fresh part out a few hours north of you: Might be able to score Trans,DS and gas tank if hes got all of that.
Looks like Trans go for like 250-500, DS no clue maybe 250, Tour991's gas tanks go for $100, all in on parts should be ~750-1000. Rent a truck from home depot for the day for $150 and you can go pick it all up. Probably cost $1000 to get the truck towed to your apartment, so all in bout $2k ?

Truck should be worth >$5k after that

I remember a lot of shops claiming the OEM ones were NLA, but I eventually got a quote for $1110 for an OEM unit, but I went with this one for $700. Yea I should've just ordered the OEM shaft.

I was thinking of that yea, maybe I could have it shipped to Zane's shop if he's willing to help me with it. I'm inclined to cut losses at this point though.

If Zane's on board with that, I think your best bet is to upgrade your rental car to a U-Haul (or better Penske if you can) with a trailer and tow it yourself.

Just make sure you've got an extra trailer tire; based on other people's experience, their trailer tires seem to suffer a lot of blowouts

Probably just bad luck, Nick's got to be running out of that by now...

...but that is why I said Penske if possible, just in case.

Also I could’ve caught it if I’d been thinking clearer. I guess I just had that highway tunnel vision though.

I'd bet everyone in this thread has overlooked something and regretted it at some point.

I lost a few grand to repair bills after failing to understand the symptoms and severity of coolant loss in my car. It was an expensive learning experience, and a big motivation for me to get more hands-on with my car's maintenance.

I80 is boring as fuck that's for sure.

I've done the drive some 7-8 times across the states so far.
