For this, yes......but knowing that the majority of Tacoma owners lift their trucks or modify them even mildly.....having suspension geometry that risks this either means Toyota didn't do

This one yes.....but Toyota knows damn well the majority of Tacoma owners modify their trucks...which means this was either an oversight in engineering with the new suspension geometry, or they did this knowing full well they can just start axing warranties with impunity to save themselves money, Magnussen-Moss act be damned.

The majority? Where are you getting your info from. I know a lot of people that run around in Tacomas, the number of them modifying their truck is very little.

You answered the question if it's Toyota's responsibility to account for aftermarket modifications. The answer is no.

    Other than shell, stock
First, as a former Service Director with Toyota I hated lifted vehicles. Owners could never figure out why the ride was harsh and why tires had bad wear. "The Company selling the lift said it would have no effect.....". Yeah, well they lied.

But....that said, Toyota has two hurdles to deal with. Amazingly, they created the first one when they denied coverage as "wear and tear" and not due to suspension modification. Toyota's extended warranty, ExtraCare , does not cover "wear and tear items" or maintenance related items(no service contract does). The fact that Extracare does list CV joints and boots as covered components shoots down the wear and tear argument.
Second, and some vaguness here by the owner is important, if Toyota mentions the lift kit, quickly mention you got the whole idea for the lift from TRD. TRD does sell a lift kit. But just say that. Don't give any more info than you have to. Like how much of a lift. Say you have no idea, it was done as a gift by a parent, sibling whatever. say it's a few inches and let it go at that, DO NOT BE SPECIFIC. Remember, they made something else the issue when you came in, not the lift. Don't let them change the argument mid-stream.(For the record, TRD is a 2" lift.)

I don't like lifts, and I don't think they serve a useful purpose. But I think Toyota has gotten cheap and impersonal, and has lost the customer service that made their reputation. You guys here need to start holding them accountable or they're only going to get worse. After working with Toyota through the 1980-1999 period when they were a blast to be around (I left ten years later), seeing what they're becoming makes me sad.

if they won't budge on fixing under warranty then you can go to small claims. Just make sure to drag both the dealer and TMS to the party at the same time.

And regardless of what happens, lower the vehicle down to something that doesn't fall apart.

Too much work. If OP wants to game the system, install a new CV boot and pop the axle shaft back in the joint. Clean up the grease. Go to another dealer and tell them about a mystery oil leak he randomly noticed. And hope the service writer isn't among the 5200 people who have seen this thread.

I do this also where I live but the reason that it binds up when on dry ground in 4x4 when cornering is because each tire on an axle (front for example) travels different distances.

You’re literally showing survivorship bias right now. “I did a thing I wasn’t supposed to do before and now believe having gotten away with it then means I should get away with it now.”

I’m not defending anything except the notion that doing something outside the intended purpose for a device and being surprised that it didn’t work is silly.

Who installed your Icon lift kit?

Is this the Icon kit that was installed on your 24 Taco?

Icon coilovers for the 4G Tacoma are shipped with way too much lift. I lowered mine considerably. There’s probably less than an inch of threads now to achieve around 2” of lift. Maybe OP has about 3.5+” of lift and didn't even know. Here’s how mine looked after I installed them, before lowering the coilovers

But did you install the diff drops? That seems to be the missing question that OP has failed to answer.

What do you do in Moab or any other hard track? You use 4wd, that’s what it’s for.

I guess everyone 4wding on rocks and stuff better stop. That was nothing, no abuse pulling out of a parking lot, truck should be able to handle that. A bunch of guys in this thread sound like they work for Toyota haha

They don't know this, because its completely untrue... You may think every TW member has a lifted truck, but they don't; and even if they did, the entire social media presence of tacoma owners with lifts across every forum/platform doesn't put a dent in the number of tacomas on the roads. You should really take a mental note next time you drive around town, keeping tally of every tacoma you see lifted vs non-lifted. Stock trucks rule the roadways.

Whats wild is you think the engineers had an oversight with suspension geometry. I guess that explains why different trims have different axles. They never even thought of it :notsure:
