    Hi all ,

    Decided to join this evening.
Recently moved to NY from South Africa where we did not receive the Tacoma but rather the Hilux.
Being familiar with the 2.7 engine powering the Hilux in some models and seeing how reliable they were, the logical choice was a 2.7 4x4 manual. We also received the hilux with a few turbo diesel engines aswell as a 4.0v6. My peronal favorite was the 3.0 d4d but I see there is no love for diesel in the US unless it's in a large vehicle.
I received my 2009 access cab yesterday and proceeded to change the radio today and that's what led me to this forum and I'm pretty sure a lot of you can guess what I did and why a Google search landed me here.

Welcome! To better help you, can you clarify if you have a 2009 as your message states or a 2019 as your profile lists? And what did you do that you are needing help with?

    I have a 2009 , I'll sort that typo out.
I don't know if i need help yet , tomorrow will tell.
I started the car without reconnecting the hazard light switch and have an airbag light and I believe , as per some of the research I've done , there is a chance it'll rectify itself. So I'll see tomorrow. That's what ive read anyway. So thought I'd join as this forum popped up when I searched it.

I was initially wincing and expecting to read about the frame being holed in multiple places from rust.

Frame was replaced in 2016 thankfully and is in pretty good condition.

    To ad to my post
My previous vehicles when I lived in South Africa were a 1998 Hyundai accent 1.5GLS and a 2008 Suzuki sx4 both of which I sold when I moved to NY.
The reason why I chose this tacoma was that in the last 10 000 miles, it had new shocks and other suspension components, new continental trail contact tyres , new front brakes(pads and disks ), new exhaust and cat. The only thing really left for me to do is the clutch and some preventative maintenance, like new cooling hoses and sort out the leaking valve cover gasket.
I do however miss some of the comforts my accent and SX4 had , namely:
    - climate control
    - steering wheel controls
    -outside temp gauge
    -intermittent wipers
I dont miss the electricity adjusted side mirrors, keyless go or cruise control as driving here i found very little chance to use it in my wifes Kia, the trip from NY to VA and back , only Maryland had suitable conditions. Sometimes driving to Albany presents opportunity to use it, but anyways , I used to do 60 000 miles a year and seldom used it when I had it.

So , I'm planning on doing the following in the near future
    - temp gauge and compass
    - wire the factory rear camera into my 9 inch android head unit
    - maybe , if i can't get the steering wheel for realistic money , buy the electric side mirror switch and wire that for audio controls and to answer calls(head unit has no physical buttons )
    - canbus to relay vehicle info to android head unit
    - keyless entry but not go
    - sound treatment and some Focal speakers with an appropriate amp to drive them. Not into booming bass or piercing treble , just decent hifi that's nicely detailed for when music gets complex.
-front fog lights ( purchased , just need to install)
-I'd like to do digital climate control set it to the temp I want and it can do it's thing to heat or cool to get to 66 or so degrees (single zone is fine )
    -front and rear parking sensors
    -3D camera
    -invertor
    - Factory alloy wheels from a newer gen as I dont like these wheels very much and do prefer a more factory standard look but also dont like the way the steel wheels look.

My wifes car also pictured here is a 2019 KIA sorento EX V6 with the touring package, I do enjoy it quite a bit.

So I've acquired a seat bottom off ebay
-NOS14pc Ampro wrenches set off ebay at $49.50 incl shipping +tax. One cant really do much better for the money
-35MM 6 Point 1/2" Tekton socket off Amazon as all my socket sets only go up to 32mm (with acception of my deep impacts that go to 38mm )

I do have a 290pc Husky set that I usually take with me when driving longer distances but it skips 17mm, 19mm wrenches while it includes 15 and 18mm and only goes up to 27mm(rather 1-1/16 -26.99mm) and its in 12 point so not a really useful set for this Tacoma so I'm doing one from scratch using a guide here that lists needed wrench and socket sizes. I'll do a mix of new and NOS , I have really good experience with Ampro and it seems to have not been popular here so NOS is going for decent money. I'll continue adding stuff to it andvit should all fit under the rear seats. 20241216_190523.jpg 20241216_190600.jpg
