All my VWs had incremental oil changes. About a quart every couple months.

some people to reduce wear put an accumulator to provide good oil pressure at initial cold start. And heaters.

Looked into this extensively and so far have decided against it as the accumulator itself + extra connections are extra points of failure. If they blow under pressure & leak all the oil out, that's bad™.

haven’t heard of one fail but then again it’s typically on race cars not daily driven. And they have one or more fire suppression systems, driver wearing fire retardant suit, etc.

I wonder if dry sump helps at all even if only 50% of the effect. For example many Porsches that still do track days I believe don’t have accumulator but are dry sump.
Potentially allows for more oil, thinner oil pan and lower engine for balance, separate reservoir, etc

I’ve had many old Volkswagens and Audis over the years, they never died, they just got lower. They never leaked, they just marked their spot.
