I was wondering the same thing. I swapped to 4runner splash shields when I changed to the T4R brake calipers, but they've been a pain to bend around the reinforced spindle and sometimes rub on the brake rotor, etc.

Cory good to hear that you haven't had issues with them removed.

do you guys pull the unit bearing to fully remove them or trim them away?
I'm not sure if the thickness (if i remember correctly they are pretty thin so most likely not an issue) of the shield needs to be there for the hub/knuckle sandwich or not

Their instructions say to trim the shield if mounted behind the hub so the rotor & caliper are properly aligned.

It's not a huge variance but I did notice the rotor wasn't centered when I installed mine.

The Wilwood kit comes with a shim set to space the caliper to the rotor correctly however you need it.

I took advantage of some weekend sales on a Stop Tech BBK. Good to know about the splash shields, especially from the guys that run in bad weather climates. Thanks!

Powerbrakes instructions are specific about keeping it as a spacer.

I rough trimmed it during install and when I tore the front end of the truck apart I cut it nicely on a bandsaw.

There has been a few versions of instructions going around. They also comment about trimming some of the spindle where the caliper bracket mounts to. You take a grinder and take a few mm off. This was not in the earlier instructions either. I didn’t seem to have clearance issues but I followed their instructions just to be safe.

Did you get the standard pads or the ones with the red backing plates? I don’t know what they are typically shipping anymore but at your weight you will want the red backing plate pads.

So Delon (PB owner) told me straight up the backing plate thickness will not make enough of a difference to keep it as a spacer.

The kits to my knowledge are all shipping with the red pad. That’s what I’ve got at least.

Update on my Tacoma for those invested/interested

it hasn’t moved yet…. Big surprise lol.
The shop in possession has had some delays with their priority projects due to sema attendance and such so my stuff likely hasnt been touched yet.
We spoke yesterday and last I was told, 2 weeks and it will be delivered.
So hopefully right in time for y’all to have your Christmas money in hand

Delon lives right down the street from me, great guy.

The kits used to ship with the black pads, cold stopping power was a little better than the red pads, but the black pads literally pissed brake dust everywhere. I couldn't stand it. The red pads need a little heat to get going and they still piss a ton of brake dust but it's not quite as bad.

The red pads are touted as their overland/truck/tow pads, they handle heat a little better supposedly. Seems as if at some point they started sending the red pads by default where in the past it was an upgrade with a cost associated, I've been on the PB setup for about 3 years now. One of my favorite mods to the truck for sure. Those 40-50mph stops are so fun if you whack the pedal with a little aggression.
