I've had my Sport for 43 months now.

Declined subscription after 12 months and 3.5 years later, I'm still able to Remote Start my truck.

App was installed day of driving her off the lot...salesman was very helpful.

I recently logged back into the app and accepted the information collecting but not subscription.

So far, I've been able to Remote Start on these cold mornings this week.

EDIT: Yes, I thread revived since there are many new threads regarding same subject.

Are you saying you are able to remote start using the app without subscribing? or are you using the remote?

I agree, I subéd to the $80 annual version. I could have stayed with the key FOB remote start only but sometimes I am too far away for the fob to work. Say, if I am in a casino and getting ready to leave, its nice to have the unlimited range to start from inside the building instead of having to wait until I get into FOB range.
Iowa winters can get quite chilly sometimes,

I'm able to use the Remote Start without a subscription using my FOB.

I never removed the app since it was installed by the salesman who helped me buy my truck.

It had been a while since I opened the app and it logged me out.

I logged back in to app and accepted the "information collection" of my truck without having to buy subscription.

I don't know how long I was auto-logged out of the app but it was working fine without being logged into the app.

NOT using the app to Remote Start my truck or checking status/health of my truck.

I deleted the app after the service expired in late 21. Started it remotely with the fob yesterday.

I'm too cheap to pay monthly. Thankfully I had them throw in a 2 way long range car-starter.

My suggestion for those who have the app but don't pay subscription...

    Review your Profile/Account Settings.

Even if you don't have the app, something is allowing "Remote Start" to work...not exactly sure how the capability is enabled.

I went with StartX and it works great. It’s plug-in play. The only downside is it shuts off when you open the door. but my truck’s warm so I don’t care.

I had Remote Start installed on my wife's 2017 Elantra and it works great; can't remember the brand.

If worse comes to worst, I can totally back out of Toyota's Connected Services and install aftermarket product.

To sum it up for everyone joining in, your key fob will start your truck with or WITHOUT the Toyota app subscription.
The subscription, that costs money, allows you to use your phone to start, lock/unlock etc etc from anywhere with cell service.

There's more to the paid subscription app than what you describe...a lot more.

Something is allowing Remote Start to operate as described with FOB/no subscription.

I have an SR5..... mine never had that option. Dealership never mentioned anything about the Toyota app. They were very helpful before sending me out with stuff like pairing the phone I had then (OnePlus 7pro) and getting Android auto working. I got an after market remote start last winter from Mypushcart.com they sell a real basic factory key fob remote start for lots of models based on the Fortain(sp?) module. I've installed them for a few others too. No subscription fee as I hate to buy electronics that require a subscription. Another Reason I pick Eufy Security over Amazon's Ring crap at home. $200 for it no issues with the engine cutting out when you open the door like with the ones for the proximity keys. Just have to remember to not push the brake pedal before you put the key in to run or it shuts off as a safety feature.

    Just getting started.
My son remote starts my truck on cold mornings, but he costs me and my wife a bit more than $80 a year.

Like what? Shows you your last trips and if you had harsh acceleration or cornering? Where your truck is currently at? Tire pressure? That’s what I meant by the etc etc part.

I was simply stating that if you stop paying for the app, your key fob will start your truck if in range. Press lock 3 times consecutively.
