Put a postcard in this mailbox addressed to all the creepy stalkers on TW just waiting to jump in when something bad happens:

    Eat it creeps.

Here. This is for all the hysterical women on TW screaming how bad the broke gen was six months ago:

    Eat it Karens.

Toyota sent out a survey. They are interested in how we use our truck beds and seem particularly interested in what kind of tailgate we want. This is my response:

If any of you respond that you want a super duper tailgate, I am tracking you down and inserting you into a woodchipper.

So my RSI Smartcap moved forward on the bed couple of inches:

I had torqued clamps to spec prior to leaving on this trip. Started noticing the back topper hatch locks were getting harder to close and open. Until just this morning it was damn near impossible to close. Clambering around I noticed I could put a considerable amount of my palm on the bed sides. Oops. Then the lights came on.

Thinking about all the ways I can 400 lbs of topper and RTT to slide backwards. Pointing it up a hill and slamming ledges? I have a hydraulic hi lift jack. But I can't figure a way to work it into the center of the topper. Suggestions are welcome.

hmm. that's a tough one. are you comfortable with two guys standing on the tailgate? If so, I'd get hands on the RTT. Lift and slide towards you. Seems as if the RTT is going to have more structure than the topper. It's too dark to take a good look at the mounting hardware of my RSI. It may work with the hardware loose. You may have to remove the hardware all together.

I have re torquing the hardware on my topper on the weekend chore list.

    Good luck.

I've had a (new design latch) SmartCap on my F150 since the spring. My first dirt road trip (October) made the rear latches almost impossible to close. When I got home from the trip, I had to blow them out with compressed air and lube them with WD-40 to get them properly operational again. The rear don't have anything visibly wrong with them and the lock cylinders have been lubricated internally and externally, but they still aren't back to being as smooth as the ones on the side windoors.

SmartCap has an issue with these latches, but I'm not sure if they know about it yet. Ironically, they sent an email about latch maintenance about the same time I returned from my trip. Regardless, it was super annoying to have the issues in the middle of my trip, and I'm not going to be, nor should I have to be, cleaning them during a trip.

Good luck with your shifting issue, I hope you get it resolved. Maybe adding a few more of the spacers (the small rectangular blocks) would help? If you ask Smartcap for more, I'm sure they'll send them. They only sent 6 with the cap, but when I complained about the tailgate being hard to open, they sent me another pack.

By spacers, do you mean the tnuts that fit into the bed rail mounts?

I noticed that you have three pairs of clamps for mounting. I know the F150 is a longer bed, but I would be more comfortable with the same on mine instead of just two pair.

Ah, the Tacoma does mount differently, I forgot about that.

    Step 25 here: https://www.rsismartcap.com/uploads/I-SHEET-NA-TA3-V6.pdf

It looks like you already have 8. I added a few more to my truck, so there is more surface area contacting between the cap and bed rails.

I assume your cap slid in the T channel? I wonder if you could slide something in the T-channel, in front of the front thread blocks, to keep them from being able to slide forward in the channel? Basically, the front thread block wouldn't be able to slide forward because the channel would be full of whatever spacer you put in there. Sliding towards the tailgate would also suck, but at least it's not going to damage the cab, so I'd focus on limiting the ability for it to slide forward.

Or, like you said, just add one pair of what I have to the middle of the topper, right over the middle mounting block in step 25. You'll also want a thin rubber sheet to place between the upper jaw and the topper's lip.

Had to see if this CBI front bumper could be trusted to do any work on the trail:

In real life situation like jack and stack, I would be using a strap to stop wheel droop. My mind is more at ease now.
