I sound deadened the rear wall of my cab yesterday and I don’t have a garage to work in…I couldn’t feel my hands or feet when I was done lol

 

How was that? Did you use DynoMat or carpet padding??

I have a 10” JL sub and was thinking of doing the same.

Short version is…somehow the road noise in the cab seems louder now. I think it has to do with the pressure vents on the rear wall of the cab. I removed the OEM carpet-like material that was covering that area so today I’m gonna try to put that back and see if it helps.

 

I don’t think any of us will pass up looking at mod pictures! I didn’t have an notice icon that you posted in there, I’ll have to go check

I bet it was freezing. I’ve not even finished putting up Christmas decorations because it’s too cold…

Sucks that cab noise seems to have changed for the worse… maybe trim out the vents if you haven’t already? I’ll have to check the thread you posted, but definitely post that stuff here. I know myself and others love seeing people’s work and builds come along!!

And just now I took the goose gear off AGAIN and then made a flap to cover each vent while still allowing for air flow. We’ll see if it helps.

Before (the vents are just small flaps so there are basically just two big permanent holes in the rear wall of the cab)

Looks great! Do you have material on the back of the plates too? Not sure if or how much it might help.

 

Thanks! Yeah the guy I got the goose gear from put Kilmat on the back of the goose gear boards. I didn’t feel the need to add anything to those because I figure the noise is coming from outside of the truck. We’ll see if these two flaps help at all

Really, unless they are bad, I don’t think you really “need” too. But, if you are upgrading that’s a different story.

You have lots of options, depending what you wanna do. If you want a decent cheap upgrade, the 5100 are your best bet and inexpensive. You can use your springs, and have them installed. You can also buy new springs as well.

It’s all just how much you wanna spend. I think your off road coil overs are different than what were on my off-road. Maybe from 2nd to 4WD? If that’s the case, you can probably get low mileage off road coil overs for cheaper.

 

Yeah I’ve had the Bilstein 5100’s all around for about 45K miles now and I really like them. I kept the OEM springs.

 

That's what I thought, just the shocks really aren't as bad as I thought, $550 before taxes on extreme terrain

 

Yeah I think they’re a really good deal for the quality you get. I got mine from hotshot offroad. He’s very active on here and has really good deals. Might wanna see if he has them for cheaper; really good customer service too.
