Is there a sweet spot between cost(both $$$/time) vs outcome(quietness) in terms of the materials ir techniques. Ideally I'd love to do this. But I dunno if I can do 100 hours or even 70. I got 6.9 kids at home at the moment. But I'd love to do this project and upgrade my headunit and speakers.

Start with the doors and back of the cab. Just work on one at a time and it'll be a few hours each. That's how I broke mine up over about 3 weeks when I had chance to work on it.

So when I swap out speakers do the doors first, use thr dynamat or something comparable. Then use the closed cell sinless product then if you really want to deaden everything add the last layer of MLV sheets? Rinse and repeat til you're done.

Holy F!!!! Dude, that is a solid job! Where did you use the different sizes of dynaliner? I’m guessing 1/2” on the roof? 1/4” for floor and 1/8” doors? I’m wanting to tackle this project over the summer and fingers crossed I can get all the material ordered at once.

Thanks  1/2” was used on some of the floor. 1/4” was used on some of the roof, some of the floor and back wall. 1/8” was used on all the doors, some of the back wall, some of the floor/roof and b/c pillars. You’ll have to watch my videos to see where I placed it all.

I want to chime in and say that this is so true.

If you do 100% cld coverage (which you should, the 25% thing is a misunderstood figure), taking everything out, keeping track of all the retainers, bolts, etc, prepping surfaces, making templates etc can easily take a person upwards of a week to do right for an entire truck.

I mean, for my driver and passenger doors, making templates for the inner and outer door skin, applying the cld, acoustic foam, block off plates, butyl rope on everything, doing the same to the plastic door panel, adding thinsulate etc probably took me 3 days of work.

With sound deadening its GIGO, in for a penny, in for a pound. There is really no point to cutting corners.

Using extra material to sound deaden the exterior panels and see if it further reduces noise inside the cab. So far I’ve got the hood and tailgate complete. Next up will be front fenders and rear bedsides. I’ll post the results when I’m done!

Two weeks ago I did the pool noodle modification. I zip tied three pipe insulator tubes together, and then wrapped fireproofing sheets around that using a zip tie and electrical tape around the zip tie to protect the paint.

last week I drove to and from Louisiana and Raleigh, North Carolina for Thanksgiving. It definitely made a huge difference in cabin noise and made for a much more comfortable ride

Just went on a test drive and measured the db after sound deadening the exterior panels. I recorded a huge drop in db levels! The last time I was at 75.7db and now it is at 70.5db for a total reduction of 5.2db.

A lot of the mud terrain tire noise is diminished and the engine noise is much more relaxed. Overall I would definitely recommend if you have the extra time and materials.

Haven’t chewed through the entire install but Big Congrats on shedding light to a large fact often overlooked/ignored. Audio is definitely enhanced with less noise & so is less driving fatigue when it’s off. Great thread :hattip:

Thank you! I did a significant audio upgrade while the interior was all apart. So I’m looking forward to getting more seat time after this round of sound deadening.

Agreed, I’m thankful for this thread as I’m fighting the good fight against cabin noise right now. I have the Goose Gear full rear seat delete and I sound deadened my rear cab wall but now I’m trying to figure out how to mitigate the noise from the rear cab wall pressure vents.
