This is what’s in the last paragraph of the job description: ‘…other duties as assigned.’

We can carry over 240 hours of vacation time from December 31st to January 1st.

My forecast balance currently puts me at 239.7.

Getting close to maxing out

When I was first hired over 20 years ago, my boss used to go crazy he didn’t earn that month’s allotment of leave time due to be maxing out.

We get 2 days a month (after working there for 20 years) but not if you max out (we can earn up to 50 days).

He would take a day or two a week before thinking it would give him some buffer to earn that month’s time. Month after month he would give time back and never got a straight answer from HR to avoid losing time.

It took me several emails back and forth to get the info. It had to do with when they take the the off the books based on pay periods. We start off not getting paid for close to a month and when we do get paid, it’s for a couple of weeks back.

I haven’t come close to maxing out since…

    Good luck @Fargo Taco

The only time the max of 240 comes into play is December 31st at midnight. Other than that, we can stockpile as much as we want. My 240 is just for vacation time. Sick leave is a separate pot and has no maximum.

My wife has a max of, I think, 280 hours but hers is sick and vacation time together so she accrues like crazy and pretty regularly sells back time.

Yeah, I get a separate bucket for sick - maxes out at 120 days, I’m constantly maxed and would love the opportunity to sell it back but we can’t :annoyed:

Seems like my wife is in the same situation as yours. Doesn’t seem fair to me..

The way my schedule is set up if I burn 6 days of vacation total, I can get 3 two week periods off annually. The rest I can cash out into the pension plan which is matched. Sometimes it’s possible to have your cake & eat it too.

Man I wish. Neither our sick time or our vacation can be rolled over into our pension. And new rules only offer a 4:1 buy back. I rarely use sick time. So at some point I will have to figure out how to burn the close to a 800 hours I’ve built up over the last 13 years

Doing some very rough calculations, I've been here for 13 years, too, am at 450 hours so I must have used about 800 hours of sick leave. Most of that would have been for kids' appointments.

Kids were older by the time I started my second career otherwise I probably would be in the same boat as you. I just don’t take time off. I blew out my plantar fascia at work two years ago and never missed a day. Grabbed a knee scooter and just kept moving.

That doesn't seem like much time to use them up. o_O

Muzzleloader Thursday. All my tags were filled earlier, but we can party hunt (as long as someone in the group has a tag anyone can shoot a deer), so I'm working for the team now. :p
I also missed a nice doe later, she was running thru the hardwoods, I may have hit a sapling. :notsure:
I do know I missed though.
One of our favorite woodlots has a big buck in it, two guys have missed it so far, I haven't seen it yet, but I've seen his size 13 boots.

Good Friday morning Wrenchmen :hattip: 21 degrees outside.

Out on the road yesterday the flashing signs said "no empty trucks or tandems for the western part of the state, chains required".
I'm very thankful we aren't receiving that snow.

Some parts were delivered yesterday so today with a bit of work & luck maybe I can drive the new clunker van around the block. :fingerscrossed:

In the things that make you say Hmmm department o_O:

I was surprised to find the satellite radio enabled in the van, yesterday I got an e-mail from the provider congratulating me on my vehicle purchase, as a welcome I'm getting a 3 month free trial.

Both  & -- just how did they know???
