I’m a huge fan of the ‘15 Pro. It’s such a great truck. Best of the 2nd gen, bulletproof engine & trans, all the bells & whistles, and holds its value incredibly well.

The ZR2s are a nice option. You can come up with reasons to justify either choice. Weigh what’s important and go with the one that makes most sense for you.

That said, if you’re selling your Pro let me know cause I have a friend looking for one. For real — PM me.

Im definitely leaning more towards keeping the Taco, Im just pondering the possibilities. If I keep it I will be upgrading the suspension soon. I do have an AAL on the rear its just saggin because Im pulling a trailer in that pic.

Theres always going to be problems with new generation vehicles of all brands, and the few people that have big issues are loud. The majority of happy people dont talk about it. I get Chevys reputation is no where close to Toyota so I get that as well. The small turbo 4 engines, and new unproven transmissions do scare me. Along with all the new complicated tech. I agree the 2nd gen Tacoma is nice due to the simplicity and ease of working on her. But honestly if some of you havent checked it out the new zr2 is actually pretty impressive. 310 hp and 430tq out of a gas 2.7 is great.

So I had my truck up for sale to test the waters and I had offers close to 30. The zr2 Im looking at is 51800k msrp. They are trying to get rid of the 24s and offered me a deal a little over 41k at 4.2% plus tax and fees around mid fortys out the door. Thats why Im even considering it. For a fully loaded new truck in todays economy it doesnt seem like a bad deal. But the other side of my brain says keep the Taco no payment is better. The 60k+ zr2 you guys are talking about is the Bison edition, that not the one Im looking at. I wish I could afford that beast.

I've also had a 2005 tacoma prerunner and a 2007 Fj cruiser so Ive been a Toyota guy for a while. Like I said Im not really into the 4th Gen Tacos, especially due to the price. There are several things I like about them but I want to give a few more years till I consider that. Thank you for the input everybody.

Yep -- and per that C&D article, Tacoma has (or soon will have) an optional iForce Max with 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet from its 2.4L engine. Just bring money.

i wouldnt get a 4cyl turbo ever again - i made that mistake before 'its just a 4 cyl, right?'
chasing evap leaks and coil pack

id be looking at the new v6 nissan pro4x if it were me (but keep an eye on nissan massive fiscal issues right now) and honestly up to you but i just bought (instead of pro4x, 3rd gen taco, 4th gen tacoma) a 2015 trd offroad with 87k miles for under 30k and i love it, so id def keep running yours. also finance markets and forecast are horrid, 4 years now looks like deep serious 60 year inflation rearing its head (and it historically is ruthless) so i am trying to be smart with it

good luck with what you choose

You know, I'd keep that Taco and drive it until the wheels fall off, if that ever even happens.

Back in the day, a GM vehicle of any type was good for about 100,000 miles. I think they've gotten better. Now maybe it'd be more like 150,000 miles.

Either way, there is every chance that your TRD Pro will still be on the road after that chevy is in the junkyard.

Personally considering that is arguably one of the best Tacomas made I would get a suspension refresh or address something that might make it feel "old" compared to a new vehicle. Not sure your living/garage situation but if you're still feeling that itch maybe get a project car/truck or second car or something fun.

My wife works at a chevy dealer and says the Colorados are the worst vehicle to buy. Constantly in the shop with pissed off customers.

But they are the best looking midsized pickup out there.

You guys are all making good points! I know Id kick my self If I sold her! Ok so new suspension, leaf pack, upper control arms, and bump stops. Whats the best all around deal out there? That would help scratch that new car itch Im feeling. My stock setup is feeling tired.

i want the nitrocharger shocks and springs next time

but in your case/budget perhaps, id suggest looking at higher end full bilstein kits or ICON

how's your interior?? do you have leather or cloth? I put clazzio leather looks covers on my 08 3 years ago and it still smells and looks like a new truck.

    A crap ton of mods.
My 2015 TRD PRO is the best vehicle I've ever owned and having owned Fords and Chevys, I wouldn't consider going back for a second. I get being bored with what you have, and wanting something new and shiny is appealing, but when you end up at the dealership for the inevitable recalls and repairs, you'll wish you had your 2015 back. I'd just do some mods to bring back that itch to have something new and stick with the one that'll be saving you a ton of money and never let you down. Your 2015 is kind of like a good woman. You won't appreciate her until she's gone and you're crying in your beer.

Even if "money is no object", it's always an object.

    My suggestions:
    1. Keep the 2015, obviously
    2. Sounds like you're due for a refresh (and want to treat yourself), so I'd go for a mid-high end suspension upgrade ($3k-ish area)
    3. I like the seat covers and other interior / quality of life upgrade suggestions. Maybe even just a professional detailing would be good.

    If that's too boring, then
    4. Supercharge it!

    5. Put the rest of that $25,000 you're not spending in a high yield savings account.
    6. Smile every time you see the Taco, knowing you have the best truck of it's era, and still a solid contender after 10 years of competitor R&D.

The problem with GM isn't so much the reliability as it is fighting with the dealers and the main office to get them to honour their own written warranty. Having owned a 2006 Colorado with the infamous cylinder head and timing chain issues, you couldn't give me one of those trucks.
