Fixing somebody’s electrical problem

 

New and broken already lol....typical

Another tech dropped the fuel tank for an evap leak. It has an aftermarket rear bumper with "JEEP" lit up. Customer said it no longer works. The other tech tied up the wires after reinstalling the fuel tank. I found the wires resting on the muffler, melted. Had to cut out and rerun the wiring away from the exhaust. I brought the car to cleanup, got out and smelled gas. I guess he never fixed the evap leak. They'll probably give the car to me.

In other news. Looks like Spring is here.

I just ordered a bunch of uninsulated terminals. I just like using my own heat shrink, especially when the connection will be out in the elements.

Looking forward to the "balmy" weather on Sunday. Gotta wash the mud off the quad from our trip to WV in October and get my boat wrapped up for the winter. I've been slacking big time this year but in my defense there's been a lot going on here this fall.

So apparently I wired the Jeep incorrectly.

 

Say what?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

 

Yep. I made a mental note of how the wires were connected. Brown to black and red to yellow. I cut out the melted wires and connected them how they were. She brought the Jeep back today with a wiring diagram.
Whoever tapped into the taillight before, tapped the wrong wire. So I basically had to fix it twice. I never got the wiring diagram for the switch on the dash so I don't know if that's wired correctly.

I guess the "JEEP" light acts as a third brake lamp and you also have manual control.

 

I usually use my Klein crimper.

So basically you had to fix someone else's hack job twice..gotcha

 

Yep.
I removed the passenger side tail light. The "installer" tapped one wire, saw that it was the wrong one and then tapped into another wire. That wire was also wrong according to the wiring diagram.

There are three "wiring options". The customer wanted #3, so that's what I did. It was the typical Jeep, a bunch of aftermarket accessories, and a winch bumper with no lights or winch.
