Hi all, trying to decide on Tacoma models. For the TRD OR without the upgrade or premiium, I realize it lacks "Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking (PA w/AB)" . However, does it still have an audible sound when you are backing up and start to get near a wall or car behind you when you are parallel parking?
    Many thanks

It does not pick up stationary objects. The cross-traffic sensors will, however, pick up moving cars and people when you're reversing and put chevrons on the screen indicating what direction they're coming from.

Thank you. I guess one can use the display screen to see how close you to an object, or, just like in prehistoric times, turn the old neck and look....

No sonar sensors on the bumper, so no beep.

Can't see concrete poles below the height of your tailgate if you turn your neck, so also check the camera :anonymous:

If you are currently driving, or ever drive, a vehicle that has parking sonar and it beeps in proximity to stationary objects, it will be super confusing and you will likely have many near misses if you get a Tacoma without it. I drive another vehicle that has parking sonar and I've come close to hitting things quite often with my Tacoma that does not have it. That parking sonar trains your brain to give zero shits until it goes beep beep beep. Without it, you'll be surprised at how easy it is to not realize you don't have it and tap a wall.

So my point: if you don't have it, you won't miss it. If you have another vehicle that has it, and you will continue to drive it, either get a Tacoma with sonar or turn it off on your other vehicle.

Many years ago, I backed into a telephone pole with my second-gen. I really like the fact that my OR with the Premium package has this feature that won't let me do it again.

The Premium package is well worth the bucks. Heated (and electric) seats, heated steering wheel, 14" screen, digital rear mirror, sound-deadening glass and hood noise pad, surround camera system... the list goes on. Consider it.

Sure, the premium package comes with a lot of neat stuff, but it's $8800. That's a lot of money. I considered it when buying my truck, but when I enumerated what was in the package, it just didn't add up. Power seats aren't exciting to me, pleather isn't exciting to me, heated seats can be had separately (and I got them), heated steering wheels are a gimmick, the regular display's plenty big, the regular sound system isn't bad, nobody actually uses dual zone climate control, the digital mirror is something else that can break and I don't haul loads where I'd use it often enough, I won't haul a trailer that needs a controller, the power tailgate is just excessive, my sales guy told me I should be glad I didn't get a digital key, the inverter's not that exciting to me, and I can do without the sliding window. They didn't enumerate acoustic padding or glass, but I can say that I don't find it too loud in the cab and I don't actually mind hearing the engine. As for the parking assist, I've not needed it before and haven't found I've needed it with the Taco.

I mean, do what you want, but adding as much as a third to the cost of the truck for a bunch of gizmos I won't use is a bridge too far.

You don’t need the premium package for sonar, the upgrade package has them.

I look at the head unit on my 2012 when I back up. 90% of the time I'm driving a vehicle equipped with a reverse camera. I never thought technology made people smarter, only lazier and less aware.

I have an upgraded (not premium) TRD Off-road. I am not a fan of the sonar or PDA. Have to have PDA turned off to back into my garage without the vehicle Auto braking and refusing to continue.

    It does not!
As you approaching a wall, you do not get any chime or warning, without the front & rear bumper sensors...
Im 52, wen I originally went to dealer, I said find me a white cheap stripped sr5, I dont need or want any bells or whistles...
They ordered me one, but an sr5 upgrade came in before mine showed up & took it...
Had no idea what options I was missing or what had what for that matter...

After my 24 tacoma lemon law buy back I had to source another truck.
I said I dont need the jbl, get me a trippy sr5, when I realized it didnt have that tech, warning as you approach objects in close proximity...

All deals were off, had to have the upgrade package again...
Its save my but a few times already..
