The mothership tagged dozens of people last week. Removing it helps hide, but you still need the tin-foil hat. :alien:

Likely part of an aftermarket/dealer installed alarm system.

Pic reminds me of a dealer tracking device, to find the deadbeats' trucks.

They usually don't put those out in the open.

It’s usually bundled with a crappy alarm system so the customer has to pay for it.

not everything is a tracking system.

just a crappy dealer installed alarm.

they don't screw those to the dash. some run off the obd2 port, but most run off the battery under the hood. all are generally concealed to attempt to encourage people to not notice them.

    ThE WoRlD wAnTs Me!!!!11!1!!

do you have pictures/links? i haven't seen any physical examples to support that claim.

    plenty of online fearmongering though.

They are marketed as theft recovery devices so people don’t realize it also a repo tracker. Google KARR alarm, they are one of the more well-known ones.

My uncle owns a used car lot and there’s dozens of these things, for whatever reason they’ll have some kind of wart or tumor that is mounted somewhere in the cabin with a red light to show that it’s working. Apparently people feel more comfortable paying money for this crap if they see it’s actually there

The best part is is shady ass dealers get people to pay $500-1000 for this like it’s some type of “security” future when it’s just to take your car when you don’t make payments.

I know I'm a little late to reply but just want to add a little more information in case somebody finds this useful like I did. I bought a 2019 Toyota Tacoma Gold Certified Used from a dealership in Orange County last month. It had the same button that I followed the wires to the KARR alarm. It was installed at the dealership I bought it from even though I specifically declined KARR protection. It can track and immobilize and it's third party control of your vehicle. I chose to remove it. I only had to connect one wire back together during removal, everything else was unplugged and completely removed.IMG_20241203_120548148.jpg IMG_20241203_125258741.jpg IMG_20241203_125303465_HDR.jpg

Tracking device that the dealer usually try to sell or put on the truck when buying new. I think it was an $1000 Upsale

I also thought this was mostly an upsale on new vehicles. It surprised me to find out it was installed in 2024 on a 2019 Certified Used Tacoma.

It has GPS tracking. Easier to dealer to repo.
