And least messy, cracking a cylinder line to move them works too. Just messy.

I got them from Amazon, just as you see them. They were on sale and I had been looking at them for a while. I'm pleased with the look and feel, and they provide a decent view. On my L3901 they stick out almost exactly the same distance as the outside edge of the rear wheels. They were $21.99 for Cyber Monday....

That's a reasonable deal. I suggest you be extra careful whenever you get near any brush until you're confident in how well they will hold when the meet a errant limb or two. I've knocked mine about quite a few times.

The good news: Mounted the plow and hooked the connections up. Everything made the right noises. Bad news: The lifting hydraulic cylinder did not move but the hose was clearly kinked and collapsed. Time to replace the hose and see if that does the trick. Thanks for the suggestions!

Stopped by the parts/repair shop to get some primer bulbs. A sea of snow covered machines out back. Asked ‘em how busy?
He said he’s cuttin’ off residential work at Christmas. Just contractors after that.

Added benefit of my barn cats. They love voles! It was entertaining watching one of the cats in the yard yesterday playing with a vole. It was throwing it up in the air having a blast with it. Found the vole in the yard afterwards ripped in half.

Plow update: Not good news. New hose in but the hydraulic ram still does not move. Seems silly to ask but does it matter if one side or the other is connected? In other words, will it not extend the ram if the “wrong” is attached? I did have to heat the end that has the two screws on the top quite a bit to get the bolt out.

The two hoses on the cylinder have to be connected to the correct ports, if they are backwards then the control will do the opposite, ie down button will raise and up button will lower.

I only replaced one hose so the connections are the same as before I replaced part of the frame. And the left and right directions work on the plow so the pump is functioning correctly.

Just think of the bolt as a safety release.

The quickest way to fuck up a truck is to put a plow on it. What caused you to hate your truck?

You probably are being serious but your comment strikes a chord of humor for me. I had a 1994 Mazda B4000(Ford Ranger) with a plow on it that I bought off my Aunt when my Uncle passed unexpectedly and tragically. It was a good truck but the Snoway plow and Maine salted road winters took a toll on the truck. Amongst many other issues the final straw was the front axle housing breaking half from rust. Shit, that WAS a beefy part. And it happened, you guessed it, while plowing.

Fast forward to 2014 and my purchase of my black DCSB OR. Six and a half years later my Dad passed and left me his 2009 Tacoma, with 48k gentle miles on it and a gently used plow. For me in Maine it is needed tool that I use carefully and sporadically. The plow is a Fisher Homesteader. Light duty but plenty for what I need.

The truck is green and the plate reads SARG-E7 as a tribute to my Dad and his 20 years in the Army, retiring as a Sargent First Class, rank E7. It shall be mine as long as I live.

And that is how I became a two 2nd Gen Tacoma owner and why a plow makes a bit more sense for me.
