Sadly Gen whatevers are starting to forget. Sad that. I guess it's somewhat normal for mankind, you know forgetting the past.

Tom: My condolences to you and your family.

Good morning. 26 degrees here at 08:15 this morning. Slept in a little bit as we were up late last night. Finished streaming The Penguin last night. Not a bad show but not for everyone, I am sure. Going to visit my cousin in the hospital today. I did not hear is she had her bone marrow sampled yesterday. She was supposed to have that done but doctors are pointing fingers as to what needs to be tested.

My condolences to you and your family, May you find peace with her memories.

My wife and I loved going to Sunset Beach in Cape May NJ (she grew up there) The gentleman that owned the gift shop was a Pearl Harbor survivor (Marvin Hume) and I would spend hours talking with him, it was like standing on the pier with him! He began flying flags for fallen veterans families at Sunset Beach over 40 years ago and the tradition continues with his family to this day ( Google Sunset Beach flag ceremony) I was so moved by him that during my last deployment to Afghanistan I flew a flag for him over our compound and made a certificate to go with it. When I returned home and presented it to him you would think I had given him a million dollars! As I am typing this the emotions of that day are filling my eyes, he was one of the nicest gentleman I have ever met. He has since passed and the last time I spoke to his son he told me that the flag was one of his most prize possessions. If your ever in Cape May NJ in the summer I recommend a visit to Sunset Beach, It's one of the most beautiful places I know

    Evening all:

:annoyed: Just read that 3 bridges in our area that cross the Delaware river are going cashless in Jan., either going to be EZ pass or toll by plate.
EZ pass has a yearly fee, toll by plate has no fee, but the toll by plate toll is double that of the EZ pass! :annoyed:

That sucks! PASS for tolls should require NO annual fee. Even in Texas, they are free to get the sticker. Now, granted they are administered terribly. But, 99% they work work for me. Write you congressman!

Question; have you shopped around? There are multiple E-ZPass authorities around the country and not all of them have an annual fee. I've had E-ZPass since the late 1990s and have never paid an annual fee; I got mine from New York even though I didn't live in that state.

Since we are talking about financial matters... I just got my house insurance bill.

We bought this place intending to live here till we died. Everything set up to live easily on what we make on social security. The insurance has quadrupled and so have the property taxes. By now, as a monthly amount, both are about half of a monthly house payment had we financed. And the water/sewer/garbage collection bill has tripled and is more than what we would have paid had we financed. Of course SS hasn't kept up. Not even close.

The problem is that real estate prices have gotten unreasonably high. We used to have the ability to insure for what we bought the place for. But now we are required to insure for "replacement value". And worse, home contents are tied to replacement value as a percentage, so now our personal possessions are valued at over $30K more than we paid for the house, and the only furniture we've bought new was a $700 couch. Basically our personal property insurance is priced to us as though we are wealthy people that buy everything new and replace it constantly.

I understand that **it happens. But the insurance rankles. I can't find a way to justify it.
