& next up is the water pump gasket cuz I'm pretty sure I'm seeing evidence that's leaking as well.... Ok. enough whining.... Back to the pan....

I can feel a little rtv squishing out from the front of the pan. Might reconsider the redo. However the outlet tube is leaking. That’s what got me started on all this. It was leaking ever so slightly at the threads. I was going to try & fix that & then noticed the gasket…. I can’t get that outlet union to budge so as to angle it up a pinch. I pulled the line up with a zip tie & the fitting went in all happy, but there’s a leak at the where the tube meets the fitting.

I always go with my first "gut" reaction,,, and by the way, I hold the record for dumb moves, don't feel bad.

It's ok if you have a little of the RTV/FIPG goop squishing out from the pan, to be expected. If you are talking about the transmission fluid send/return lines, yep those can be a real pain to thread correctly.

    Brake line flashbacks!
It’s more about if when I did install the pan, did some of the rtv actually end up on the filter. & if it did, that means there’s a spot on the pan missing some rtv. My comment about the rtv squishing out meant that it would seem there was indeed plenty on the pan, which is good.
If the rtv got caught in the crossfire, there’s a potential for a leak where it got wiped off & rtv in the transmission (ended up on the filter).

The pain in the ass with installing or removing RTV is why I was determined to use a premade gasket. It's possible that some gaskets are better than what was available 20-30 years ago. I don't know what Toyota does on the latest new vehicles.

I haven't done a full inspection yet. Just a quick once over & so far, so good!
