Hey, if anyone is in of around the panhandle with a stock size set I'm not opposed to going stock tires and rims. The wheels were not the selling point for me. I didn't like them from the get go. If going to 17s fixes it id be thrilled.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
A 2" lift shouldn't have needed to hack the harnesses. Doing that on a CanBus vehicle is asking for trouble. Have you tried disconnecting the battery and letting the ECU reset? Have all harnesses that were cut been replaced? The suggestion on the calibration of the radar in front may be something to look into.

Beyond that, you've got me. This isn't something I've heard of before.

keep an eye out, you’ll eventually find a new to newish set for fairly cheap. Some folks want top dollars at first, until they realize the resale is for shit and what the space back.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Keep looking on Facebook Marketplace or local Craigslist. I've seen stock take-offs go for a very reasonable price sometimes. This thing sounds like a nightmare to own, good luck.

hey man, i did ask a questions about you removing the lift and tires, i didnt get a response. You did say the truck was auto steering which isnt a feature on the 3rd gen tacoma. Kinda wonder what you were talking about which would might indicate poor alignment? Lots of questions and hard to do this over the internet. Im not close to you but if you could find a guy on the forum to show you his truck it might help you compare apples to apples on your truck that might help

buy some on marketplace. Tons of stock rims with used tires on them for cheap. Then sell your wheels and tires there also. doing a switch limits your options.

I don’t know why the steering is fighting you but the other symptoms you describe are from the ABS thinking one or more wheels are locking up. Tires are all the same size?
You need a qualified technician to monitor the wheel speed sensors and see which is/are the culprits.
Meanwhile, you could pull the fuse for the ABS pump and see if you’re still “loosing control” of the vehicle.

Good luck and be careful until it’s resolved. I strongly suggest pulling the fuse until it’s sorted out.

The wheel size has been a question mark for me since day one. When the truck acts up it's like the power steering and brakes don't want to do what they are suppose to. The steering gets really hard and wants to stay straight ish.
I jumped on this forum to see if anyone else ever had something like this happen, apparently not! I was looking at taking it back in to the dealer or trying to do what it takes to fix it. Buying a set of tires and rims and then it doesn't fix anything is a concern but if it fixes it that would be awesome. I'm also new to NW Florida as I only moved here recently so I don't have a ton of connections.

They are all the same size, had to get them all balanced they were all 4oz off. Truck tracks straight down the road.
Pulling the abs fuse sounds interesting, I'll have to figure out which fuse it is. I'm semi retired and the truck generally never gets over 40 during my day doing the work I'm doing right now. I avoid the busy roads whenever possible and keep lots of distance in front of my just in case.

As long as all the tires are the same diameter the truck could have 24s on it and it wont know any different. Don't spend money on different wheels until the problem is fixed. People run 40" tall tires and don't have any issues like this.

The truck needs to be driven while having a computer hooked to it to find out which sensor is giving a bad reading. Until that's done it's all a guess with no codes being thrown. This could be a computer issue or abs module issue. When computer or module goes bad a lot of times they will act weird with no codes. It could also be the Yaw sensor in the air bag module. It could be suddenly detecting a slide which is why the brakes are trying to lock up certain wheels to steer the truck. Make sure the air bag module is mounted and not flopping around. It is where the center console meets the dash but more under the dash.

Has this truck been wrecked before? Where did it come from before the dealer bought it? It could be a floor vehicle. Have the dealer run a carfax for you if they didn't already. Carfax isn't the most reliable but it does catch stuff.

Is there a way to reset the truck computer so it can re learn? I don't think the truck was ever in an accident. I can't remember though. I remember looking at the Carfax at the dealer on the guys phone and nothing to be concerned with showed up.
I bought one of the mucar odb for readers from Amazon but the day I was recording the abs traction control stuff and it happened the stupid app didn't show anything other than the abs which it said was fine. It didn't give results for the traction control light flickering at all. Kind of pissed me off.

Which fuse is it? I see a couple abs labels but can't find anything in the manual

How long do I need to leave the battery disconnected to reset the ECU? I've got it pulled right now.
And thanks to all those who have been trying to help me through this ordeal.

Disconnecting the battery is about all you can do. I personally don't see how that would change anything but it is easy to try. Disconnect it and for 30minutes should be more than enough.

You need to be able to watch the readings for abs, steering, yaw etc. and drive until it happens. You can try your reader again if it is suppose to read all of that. If it will graph the sensor reading voltages that would be even better because you can see any sudden spikes or noise easier.

You can do more than just disconnecting the battery. With Techstream you can recalibrate the VSC sensors for yaw and recalibrate the ABS system for braking. OP do a search for VSC reset and ABS calibration after bleeding brakes. I would do both of these recalibrations before resorting to other fixes.

If I not mistaken, OP, or whoever needs to pay for two day Techstream service. Have to go independant shop with Techstream, or dealer, for more time.

Best advice I've seen so far. Definitely do this "soft" stuff before buying a bunch of shit and ripping stuff out. If you can restore / resolve your issues via some sort of software setting, then woo-hoo for you!

Agreed 100%, that's why I came her looking for possible answers.
I have only heard of tech stream but no idea what it is. Probably a mechanic thing. I bought the code reader to diagnose what's going on but on the Tacoma is not finding anything. On my Wrangler it worked for good me, I had a bad thermostat, so I just replaced it. I'm going to have to contact the scanner company to see why it's not recording all the data.
Since I got the Tacoma my otherwise perfect 10yo Jeep started having with crap going on with it. I really think the Tacoma is possessed. How does the oil cooler on the Wrangler to bad at 36k? Then I found out that one of the oilers mounted to the block fell off and into the oil pan. I bought it new and never beat it wth! Fortunately the latter repair only cost me parts. The oil cooler was 1200.00. a lot cheaper that Chrysler charges.

I hate to be a dkhead, and I know that everyone is not equipped to do this,
but this is the number one reason I always buy brand-new vehicles. I don't
do stupid mods to them, I treat them well, maintain them, and drive 'em for
10-15 years. I'll drop a hefty down payment and service easy payments.

Once paid for I continue to contribute to a slush-fund equal to the amount of my
previous payments for the time between buying another brand new vehicle. It makes
it much easier to swallow the cost.

Fortunately ( or not ) this game is over for me as I do not expect to survive long enough
to need to buy another vehicle for myself. My son will inherit a real nice ride and he is
secretly hoping for my early demise.
