Why on earth would you want to insure for what you paid? Personal property coverage usually isn't that much to start with, so your increase there should be minimal.

Got my tax statement today...$300+ more than last year. State legislature passed a bill to reduce the individual income tax, I bet that didn't go down $300.

Morning kids :hattip:Insurance companies pass along claims they don’t like to pay out. In Michigan I’m quite sure our increase is due to the hurricane coverage in other states. Just like we absorb the health insurance coverage for unhealthy people. It’s an unfair and broken system that nobody is willing to do anything about. I M O

Good Morning Folks :hattip: Happy Sunday

A few small chores, wrap the two camelia bushes out front in burlap for the winter and cover the deck furniture...and then it's football and nap time :D.

    Have a great Sunday

Hi Carl, Thats as good of a reason to stay out of Jersey :laugh: as any. :fistbump:

My insurance bills have gone up over $200 and I have never put in a claim . But they get away with it so they won't stop unless someone stops them. If not insurance, realestate taxes and school taxes have gone up yearly but not as fast as the insurances :goingcrazy:.
Where I have an issue is with the school tax. I live in a neighborhod (55 and over) where no one under the age of 19 can live permanently. But when paying school taxes we pay the full boat. Been fighting it for years but the old phrase "why buy the cow when you are getting the milk for free" . Wouldn't be bad paying if the kids graduating knew more. They can't figure out simple change without the register telling the the amount. Enough rant.

Try to have a great day all.:hattip:

Carl: Your post had me do a quick look-up on EZ Pass fees. This info may be old, but PA looks like one of the states with no yearly fee. I am an early adopter of EZ Pass, it knocked an hour off my time to go to a car club meeting, back in the day, in CT.

PA has a $3 annual fee per transponder, it's mentioned right in the article quoted. I have 2 transponders as PA offers a special motorcycle EZ Pass that gives me an even lower toll rate for the bikes.

    Morning all:

Thanks Tom, this is something new to me THAT I REALLY DON'T WANT, the yearly fee that I mentioned is for the transponder that you need.
According to the link, it looks like it will cost $35.00 for the transponder, with a $3.00 annual fee, then a $25.00 deposit in the account or no deposit required if auto replenish @ $10.00 or less is selected, that auto replenish sounds like you would have $35.00 minimum in the account at all times.
So just to get it, it looks like it would initially cost about $63.00 minimum for something that I would rarely use, but now need, to cross the Delaware Water Gap bridge to fish, either that or pay double for pay by plate. Of course, I could stay on the Pa. side of the river and then purchase the discounted senior yearly boat launch fee :annoyed:, but that's not where the prime walleye fishing is, I think it's just a matter of time before they start charging a fee to launch at the 2 no fee launches that we mostly use on the Jersey side.
OR, I could only fish with Jim, he already has EZ pass! :)

We're all in the same boat Travlr, EVERYTHING just keeps costing more and more, everything that you mentioned is no different here in Pa!

:rain: Good morning Porch Pals & Sue! Drizzly morning and grey. Rain is supposed to quit, and we get in the 50's like several of you. Glad I have nothing planned! Tomorrow, have to take the wife for an early vascular surgery - it appears a stent in her leg has "gone awry". It's outpatient, we've been there before. I'm giong to get myself a Cowboy Special breakfast from Mr. Taco in a minute. That'll keep me slowed down!
    And OUCH!

I think you're misunderstanding the PA EZ Pass. When you pick one up, and they're available at most PA Walmart locations, the initial cost should be $38.00. That cove4s your first year transponder fee and puts $35.00 into your EZ Pass account which you tie to a credit card. Think of the $35 as being held in escrow. If you don't use any toll roads at all that $35 just sits there. Each time you use a toll road with your EZ Pass they will pull out the toll amounts from your account. If/when your account drops below $10 they will now bill the credit card you've attached $35 and replenish your "escrow " account.

I had concerns myself and avoided EZ Pass for a long time. I've been using it now for almost 10 years and will never go back. The lower toll prices you pay make the system almost pay for itself.

LOL... so on the one hand I should suck it up for increases that support the insurance industry for no good reason... while on the other hand you're complaining because your taxes haven't been reduced enough.

As for why I would want to insure for what I paid... why do you think insurance companies should be able to dictate what I have to cover? I doubt I have 15K in personal property in this house. We shop yard sales. Why should I be required to value what I have at $30K over what I paid for the entire house?

And to answer your question... I prioritize being able to afford eating over the remote possibility that I might actually need to make a claim for the entire value of my home.

Yea, I may be misunderstanding what I'm reading, I'm thinking that the transponder costs $35 and that I would need to add additional money to an account to cover any tolls, I'll check it out on my next trip to Wally World.

    Thank You to everyone.

Over the last few days, the kids have been helping me get a head start on cleaning up years of clutter. Oh my, she was a bit of a hoarder. The daughter's husband walked in, noticed empty kitchen counters, and commented, "I guess you are the minimalist." I abhor clutter!

I have learned that there are not enough trash bags or dumpsters.

Give your loved ones a big hug and start cleaning out your years of accumulation. It's later than you think.

'Bama didn't get into the playoff this year, but Georgia was her #2 pick.

I think that's what's going on here. In reality you are NOT buying the transponder at all. The $3 per year you can consider a "rental" fee. The $35 is what they require to open your account and have money for your as yet unused tolls. I hope this helps you out and makes it a little less stressful. Believe me, I HATE paying tolls as much as anybody but there are times where the PA turnpike is such a time saver that I force myself to use it. EZ Pass is nice too in that it's accepted in quite a few states and saves the hassle of toll by plate when travelling and not really knowing what you might owe after you get home.

Feel free to reach out and I'll try to help you any way I can.

I've had friends lose a house to a fire, Trust me when I say you very likely have more that you realize. Stupid things that you might need to replace and won't even realize you've lost them until later. Vehicle titles, copies of life insurance policies, any form of family heirloom or collectible items. Electronics, small appliances, any artwork, clothing, etc. Coworker of mine figures in his fire he lost close to 4K in fishing gear and tackle alone. He used to fish in tournaments. In my cast there are 4 motorcycles in my garage and only 2 have full coverage. I probably have close to 10k in tools.
