    ARB 3” Lift
Hello Tacoma World, this is my first post although I have been a lurker for a while.

I have what I believe is a unique issue with my Taco. First I will give some backstory on the work I’ve done to my truck. It’s an 02 Manual TRD off road. I bought it with some pretty severe frame rust on the rear driver side where the front of the leaf pack connects to the frame mount (opposite of the shackle).

To repair it I bought a SafeTCap kit for the aforementioned area. I cut out all of the old oxidized area of the frame before fitting and installing the SafeTCap. I also installed an ARB 2” lift kit. The kit included replacing the struts, springs and leaf packs all around. Finally, I have removed the sway bar.

The issue I am experiencing is when taking a sharp turn or going over bumps and potholes. The fuel tank moves slightly toward the frame and makes a loud thump noise as it makes contact.

I assume that this is due to the SafeTCap being slightly larger than the original frame which causes decreased clearance between the inward side of the frame and the “lip” that protrudes from all sides of the fuel tank. Could it also have something to do with the aftermarket suspension I’ve installed?

I’m not sure how to resolve the issue. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also I will post pictures soon to give you a better idea of what I’m dealing with.

What’s the condition of the straps holding the fuel tank? Mine were pretty rusty. Looking forward to pics

I'd be looking at what holds the fuel tank, namely the straps. it shouldn't be moving. I'd look at the rubber on the straps and where the straps attach....
