I guess it's the cows fault. Cows will dig out the dens into holes that will swallow a tractor tire. Not good come hay season. For some reason we've been over run with them this year.

They are just now showing up here. Supposedly have moved here from releases years ago in Florida. Can carry leprosy. Another non native. Fire ants, coyotes, armadillos, Japanese beetles, kudzu bugs. All we missing here locally are hogs (thankfully) and monitor lizards.

They will work on your corn and canteloupes. Got 18 here in last 18 months within 100yds of house and they still show up on the 2 trail cameras I’ve got here. And turkeys showing increased recruitment during the same time frame I am removing them.

I see as many as 5-6 at a time on my trail cameras and they can really put the hurts on the turkey population by raiding their nests.

Same thing with prairie dogs. For several years we had a standing invitation from a hay ranch in Vernal Utah. It’s prime antelope country as well. Can’t count the times we’ve been surrounded by grazing herds while we are shooting the little varmints.

Got an e-mail from an older (than me) guy I know who hunts the same public land shotgun area as me.
I was denied a permit this year sooo he goes to MY (lol) spot at the famous stone wall and killed a Dink yesterday.
    Fuggin lottery system. :frusty::frusty::rofl:

My friend let me bring the kids to shoot some does yesterday evening. We dropped Cole off at a ladder stand in the bottoms by himself with my 30-06.

Sadie and I went to the portajon blind. It’s really a portajon on a hill over a large field.

    upload_2024-12-8_14-51-22.jpg

His only request, don’t shoot anything with horns. Fine with us, we need meat.

    1st one out for Sadie.

    upload_2024-12-8_14-50-44.jpg

He got to within 20 yards of the jon.

    upload_2024-12-8_14-51-7.jpg

Then the ladies started coming out. At least 9, maybe more.

    upload_2024-12-8_14-52-29.jpg

I told Sadie to pick the biggest one and let it eat. She dropped her like a bad habit with her .243.

    upload_2024-12-8_14-53-2.jpg

I text my buddy and told him we were walking to the truck. After we got there I heard Cole shoot in the bottom so he came and got us on the golf cart and we went to see what happened.

I walked up to make sure Cole got out of the stand okay since it was his first time ever being in a ladder stand and hunting by himself.

The land owner went to the deer and said “dern Cole, you blowed her brains out!!”

Thanks! If Sadie and I stayed in the blind we could have shot more but I had to clean them and we were 30 minutes from the house. I’m thankful he let me bring the kids and they shot so good and we didn’t have to do any tracking.
