What's Santa bringing everybody? Anything good?

There's an annual boat parade down here every year. This rascal went and ruined it, decided that drinking was more important than others safety. He crashed into another boat and two people were life flighted with broken back/necks. The sauce isnt worth ruining your life or others!

I've basically stopped drinking myself. I had the realization a while back that while I know what drunk feels like, I have no idea of officially how drunk is too drunk. And I like vehicles and driving myself far more than any amount of alcohol in the world. I'll occasionally have a glass of wine with pizza/pasta at home, but almost never out in public anymore.

I get it's not as easy for everyone to put it down--many people are far better at budgeting their finances than I am in the same respect.

Got some more work done to the van today.

Firstly, although I'm secure in my manhood and all that -- the Mary Kay stickers had to go.

It is a safe assumption that this thing didn't have the most comprehensive maintenance program.

It uses a cartridge filter, unlike our 3.5 engine this one is on the top.

    KIMG4672.jpg

For academic interest I got a Mart brand filter and a Mopar one - both US made.
The one I took out on the left was a China job.

    KIMG4674.jpg

    KIMG4675.jpg

Interesting, the China filter had a different end where it fits on the relief valve I believe.

This is cracked all the way round, that explains the exhaust noise.

    KIMG4678.jpg

I cleaned it up with a Dremel and welded it - up to my usual standard.

Went for about a 15 mile drive, everything seems all right.

    More service work to do.

Are those filters the same on both ends?

Going from the inspection sticker they only drove about 2900 miles since March.
I don't know how long it sat in the driveway after the power steering hose started leaking.

The bottom is the same on all 3.
The China filter had a small hole and snapped onto the center post, the other 2 had a larger hole.

On the center screen you can read coolant temperature, oil temperature & oil pressure.
I was a bit concerned that it only read about 37 psi at highway speed.

Turns out it has a dual-stage oil pump. o_O

I read up - here's how it works: (cut & paste)

The engine oil pump features seven vanes and a moving element (1) that continuously adjusts to maintain a regulated oil pressure supply by varying the displacement of the pump.

The pump has two regulated pressure stages of operation controlled by an on/off solenoid (2). Low pressure mode regulation (solenoid on) is approximately 200 kPa (29 psi) and high pressure mode regulation (solenoid off) is approximately 450 kPa (65 psi). The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) switches the pump between stages based on engine operating conditions, oil and coolant temperatures, speed and load. Under most typical conditions, the pump will run in low mode from idle up to around 3000 rpm, and switch from low to high mode between 3000 and 4000 rpm.

The maximum oil pressure in the engine is limited to 1000 kPa (145 psi) by the relief valve (3). Pressure in the main oil gallery of the engine can be monitored with diagnostic equipment through the oil pressure sensor mounted on the rear of the oil filter module. The minimum pressure for the engine is 41 kPa (6 psi) at any operating condition.
