Sport mode... Whats the point?

Someone's gotta do it

 

One should never, ever, tow anything in an overdrive gear. 4 is 1:1, 5 and 6 (in the 3rd Gen) are both overdrive gears.

 

I think the manual calls it "select" mode

 

Toyota refers to it as; "select", "sequential", "sport"....semantics.

 

It's semantics, but it's Sequential mode if we're trying to be accurate.

Select, sequential, Sport.... I wouldn't be so concerned about labeling as I would in understanding how it works and when to use it.

You want me to post the service manual where they only ever refer to it as "sport" mode.

Agreed, why have a forum unless it is for mods only if people are berated for asking questions that might be answered in the manual. I certainly haven't memorized my manual

Mine makes a loud whistle in sport mode sometimes. Does anyone else experience this?

Its to impress passenger seat princess date, you can tell her you know how to drive manual, or your Taco has sport mode like sports car. She wont know.
