I just use diablos, and have never really had one load up just on weld beads that quick.
This might be useful though maybe?

or are you trying to sand the whole thing?

I dont really have a problem knowing when I've hogged off too much material.

I'm not sanding the whole thing, I just want to knock down and make the welds look a bit more uniform. The hull gets acid etched before paint, so finish sanding is not needed.

Aluminum MIG welding is fast and dirty, Its nothing like TIG welding. The final product gets painted.

I will have do do some grinding before the paint. any disk that does not "load up" with have my interest.

Some DIY relocation mounts for Chevy seats into an old Ram truck

    20241208_174022.jpg

Initially I was going to build an entire platform/mount but it would raise the height of the seats by too much

I'll acid etch it then apply a filler/primer.

Probably best if you cut out the whole section and sleeve in a new piece. Find out for sure if it's chromoly or not. If so it needs a preheat to 300 before welding and post heat to 1100 after. You can get away without the post heat on stuff thinner than .120 but should still find a way to keep the air still around it after like covering in sand or lime or making some kind of shield

    #perfect-timing.

after i posted, i went over to youtube for some mindless watching for a while. i went digging into superfast matt's channel, and this was in there.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMAtgPX6st8

previously, i definitely did not understand that the flexibility/stiffness of the frame contributed to the karts cornering ability.

i would absolutely look into cutting out the entire section, and welding in a new section of pipe, but it might not hurt to reach out to a manufacturer/the manufacturer for specific tubing type and welding process. i imagine most will ignore you, but it can't be the first time someone needs to re-weld a kart, and there's got to be a documented process somewhere, even if it's some sort of custom kart building place. far too many friendly people in racing that just want to see everyone competing equally and having fun--there's got to be someone that's done it for similar cost reasons and knows what it takes.

i just fear that anything less than changing the entire section of tubing might end up with a far worse race time than what you're already getting from the frame due to unintentionally changing the stiffness of only part of it.

The frame is straight. It's just been abraded away because frame sliders were never installed.

In the karting world, everything has to be FIA approved. Any welds void FIA approval. I don't think there is any Intent to actually race this again, it's just for Sunday track days. I'll look at replacing the tube or at least getting a better picture.

Matt said he would put on any stickers that were sent to him. You can clearly see these in his video but they didn't make it on his car.

In one of his latest videos he basically says he just ran out of time before the land speed races. He put like three stickers on, if I'm remembering right. Including one telling people not to eat the ham sandwich in the carbon fiber..

    MM250.

Fan stopped kicking on. Need to find the fan switch.

Thinking about making the fan live instead of relying on the switch to turn on the fan when a heat load is present.

I did blow out a huge amount of dust, but no change.

Using the unit as a power supply for aluminum spool gun welding.

MM30A spoolgun. Supposed to be 100% duty cycle. Welder overload switch triggers after 4 minutes of welding.

She has been a good rig for the last 20 years.

I just recently noticed the fan wasn't kicking on...or if it did it was only for a short amount of time. Maybe 2 seconds. I figured the temp switch was getting wonky. I'll start metering out the unit this week and find out where the issue is.

I'm definitely gonna keep my distance on those. They can knock you on your ass even if the machine isn't powered!

I shorted a 2.5kw ham radio amplifier capacitor between my pinky finger and my forearm. 4kv, less than 3amps but my arm was in a sling for a week.

Oh fuck man, I can't imagine how painful that must've been.

You tear anything? I've heard of people really hurting themselves from the crazy spasms our muscles can cause.
