What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Tonight's victim was another fun one. That O-ring was a stage 5 clinger..figured ut would be good to hit this while the trans is out. If I did this again I would probably try to pop those studs out before trying anything else, bet it would have just walked off...but then it wouldn't take 3 hours, and where's the fun in that?

This may actually represent the end of disassembly; pretty big milestone in this phase of the project. Hell, may just make an anti-build build thread to consolidate everything..

 

Haven't done anything to my Tacoma except for clean it out, and prep it for sale. My wifes brother in-law needed a truck after his first gen Tundra was totaled. I haven't driven my Tacoma more than 1,500 miles in the last two years as my 2004 v8 4runner Limited became my DD due to our kid (AC Tacoma wasn't very family friendly) so my wife and i decided we don't need it. Struck a deal to help a family member out and still think i got a fair price.

Tacomaworld has been invaluable over the last 9 years helping me through many mods and upgrades. I bet i'll be back in a Tacoma at some point, probably a 4-door. I'll still lurk here as a lot of info here translates to 4runners as well.

It definitely fits in the universe, or the world as we know it (and I feel fine...), with apologies to the songwriter. Happily beginning to add weight after the restrictions of abdominal surgery four weeks ago... My hope is to get back to Barcelona Red projects with the new year!

Just kidding! Now I am done taking stuff apart. Forgot the RMS and clutch fork pivot, cleaned up the quill - looks a lot better than I was expecting. Not sure I wanted to see behind that seal housing though..hellooooo varnish city..explains the super dark oil at ~1k miles, records show for many years it's been getting a steady diet of whatever a Firestone Auto Care gives it for conventional oil.

 

Just took mine to the Krown dealer here and for $150, beats my old ass from crawling under my truck. Ive lubed enough aircraft to have grease in my blood/eyes/nose/under fingernails/mouth/hair for the rest of my life!!!

 

Certainly would have preferred to, but needed to manage it after work, and got some rain in our area to clear off road salt. Had a small window to take since I missed doing it at the right time in ~September.

might just be the shadow playing a trick on my eyes, but is your drivers side coilover bent where the lower shaft is welded to the eye?

 

That's just some shadow magic yea, I did a look over all the linkage and now abnormalities. Would be ironic though, as I have 6112/5160's coming (with 650# coils) to pair with a BAMF bumper - looking forward to install this spring, no interest in doing any of that in freezing temps.

 

Just looked into this and see there's a Krown dealer about 30 mins from me. Looks like they charge $169 for a 4 door truck. Might think about that next fall.

 

Definitely worth getting Krown, fluid film, wool wax, anything that isn't a hard coat finish every year if you don't want to do it yourself - I should have taken pictures, but I've coated mine since 2020 (purchased from west coast) and no rust issues

 

I got all set up to spray apply B'Laster Surface Shield after moving back to the rust belt for a spell and buying my new '22; bought the 5 gallon bucket, Woolwax gun, extensions and and everything..then found out I had Krown locations 20 minutes away and the stuff's just been sitting in my garage gathering dust the past few years. It's 1000% worth it - their equipment applies it heated, and they get inside closed areas with a mist spray where it's difficult to impossible for a DIY'er to get. At $150-160 a year, it's a criminally good value.

 

Have been using something similar at my family garage, cans were not my ideal choice. Looking to sell your equipment?

 

I am currently bartering with a coworker who's one of the biggest, most eccentric cheapskates I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I'll shoot you a message if we don't work something out..which isn't unlikely; but it's been entertaining at the same time I will admit.

 

still have to triangulate the headache rach and tie it into the frame. And build a under bed drawer for the back end.
