Answer #1: We used an Antigravity batteries XP-10 for 8 years without a hiccup. Jumped many a neighbors and stranded off-roaders battery, charged many a cell phone while boondocking and even used the flashlight while camping. Just replaced it this October with their newer model XP-20. Increased capabilities and new technology for the same price we paid for it 8 years earlier. Sorry that was more than 2 sentences.

Answer #2: Hell yes I'd buy one for my kid. It has a proven track record that we stake our lives on every time we boondock out in the middle of nowhere.

 

I've been thinking about getting a NOCO for myself and 1 for my wife.

How do they hold up in the AZ summer heat?
Do they fit under the Tacoma rear seats pretty easily?

 

They fit behind the rear seat in their carry bag ... I do. Under seat should be easy as I put my 88p under the seat and that is larger than NOCO.

I store it behind the seat panel so just "interior heat" instead of direct sun damage. It has not dropped in capacity apparently or body warping. But then lately I added front window tint which cooled down the interior on even brutal days to just a little uncomfortable.

Yea that would be my only concern - the summer is when you need it the most out here and I wouldn't
really wanna leave it in the truck 24/7. Seems small enough to just be part of the essentials when getting
into the truck.

I'd keep mine in the back-cubby under the jump-seats of the A/C Cab, where I currently have some jumper cables
for fall/ winter/ spring.

I'd buy 3 of them right now but I broke a fking tooth last night ... damn near $600 to fix it.
Getting old sucks LOL ... 25% of a tooth just cracked and fell out like nothing. What's next my left arm ?

I have to wonder whether such issues after a jump-start happen not from the jump-start itself, but rather, from the previous attempted trying to start the engine before realizing the battery is dead (the starter (relay) chattering ("Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat"), the voltage surging low as it chatters, the dash lights all blinking as it chatters, all while it tries to but can't start). I'm sure all of the truck's computer modules get subjected to that same surging... After the jump-start and the vehicle is running again, it is then realized things are a bit haywire.
If this is the case, I'm not sure if any special care and/or using a jump-pack would make a difference. Upon realizing the battery is weak or dead, best thing to do probably is stop trying to start it and just go straight to plan #2.

Like someone suggested, disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes, then reconnect it. I'm thinking this should reboot all the truck's systems and clear things up, though I haven't yet had it happen on mine so couldn't say for sure (I have read of occasional power window issues persisting that I recall you have to clear by keeping the switch(es) held after the window reaches top or bottom).

Believe it or not, it doesn't seem to get all that hot under the seats (I guess because it's closer down to the ground). One time I put chocolate bars under there to get them out of the sun for 10 minutes on a moderately warm day while I went inside for a bit and forgot about them until the next day... Expecting to find a melted mess, they were all fine. I should put a thermometer under there and see if I can remember to check it next time I'm parked in the sun for a couple hours and compare it to outside ambient temp.

The center console and glove box however, I definitely wouldn't suggest leaving anything containing a lithium battery in there long-term when days are hot.

 

How about just checking the gas cap? Lots of newer cars give fuel warning if those are loose or the gasket is started to go.

I don’t have much to contribute except I’ve had loose and broken gas caps do all sorts of Fuckery with my Toyotas and it’s usually the first thing I checked.

 

Aftermarket locking gas-caps do this frequently.

 

These are just the vented OEM kind, eventually they get buggered up and they cause all sort of errors.

 

I've got letters on my diploma that give me permission to play with electronics. My household has a NOCO battery pack in all four of our vehicles. I'm actually considering offloading the jumper cables from my Taco, there just isn't much point in carrying them anymore. The simple explanation is that the new Lithium batteries have a high energy density along with a high surge output current that allows us to provide enough juice to start a vehicle from a pretty small pack. Project farm has done several reviews and I think the NOCO comes out close to the top each time. (The 2024 video shows a pretty expensive one that will do diesels and tractors, I have GB20, GB40 and GB50's for our 6 cyl fleet.)

I got my 20 year old Artist daughter the first jump pack back in '20. I got tired of getting calls to come jump start and gave her the tools she needed to solve her own problems. One lesson and she was good to go. No sparks, no chance to reverse connect the cables, it's pretty easy to do it right. Now the problem is to remind her to recharge the pack periodically. When the Wife saw how easy it was, she wanted one. Then I decided it made sense to have one in my daily driver, and I left it in that vehicle when I passed it to the youngest when I bought my 22 this past March, so I got a new one for my Taco. I have seat jackers and it lives very nicely under the drivers seat.

Get off the fence, buy one.

 

I just pre-paid the dentist close to $700 for a fking tooth that decided to crack and break in half 2 days ago -
I think my daughter already has one she is en-route for a 5-week visit ( Professor on college xmas break ) so I'll see if she has one.
Could be the perfect gift for her.

I buy new batteries for the Truck/Subaru/and old Corolla every 2 years so I personally don't get stuck, and I have a real good set
of cables in the truck but that doesn't solve for dead battery whilst in the boonies and no other car is around, and it would be easier
to assist little old ladies at the grocery store when you can't maneuver the truck to get in jumping position....

I will seriously consider buying 2 or 3 before they increase in price by what is it... 25%-50% ??

 

After yesterdays conversation i went and ordered 2 NOCOs for my wife and I this morning from Amazon. They'll be delivered by end of day.
I told my wife i got her one and she just rolled her eyes, i think she's expecting a nicer xmas gift.

Seriously, good choice for her safety. I think you will need to keep it charged though as she will resist on grounds of "ugh!".

NOCO GB40's. I've had mine for 5 years now and the wife's for about 8 months less. Both have held up to the heat just fine. Just remember to check the charge status once every 6 months or so, ha.

Wife's has been in the trunk the whole time. Mine started behind the rear seat in one of the cubbys just fine. Now it sits under a seat delete. I'd recommend the case and a wall charger too.
