I’ve had to replace both of mine on my 2020 with 120k. The first one went out at around 80k and the other more recent at 100k or so. I have had 33s since new and have done plenty of water crossings and abusive driving to make it not concerning to me. Some get lucky and some don’t I guess. Luckily these are the easiest to replace and are a couple extra steps over a brake change really. I would recommend getting a replacement with at least oem bearings. I ordered a replacement for my originally replaced one that went out in 10k (was a cheaply from orileys I think) https://www.yotabearingsandhubs.com
They use oem equivalent koyo/Nsk bearings

2nd gen, but my driver side wheel bearing went out at 45K all stock, before mods. It happens. Sometimes those bearings get made on a friday afternoon, and you know how it is...

My 2nd gen had one go out at 71k. My 3rd gen trail toy had one go at 26k. My 4Runner (pavement pounder) with 155k is on its original wheel bearings. Things wear out much faster when you go off-road lol.

Toyota hasnt had greased bearings since 1995. They are all dry and rely on pressure to keep them functioning. There's a tiny bit of grease, but nothing like the days of packing.

Most fail due to corrosion and on the trucks, its noise we diagnose with. There's rarely play on Tacoma.

The noise is simple to diagnose, you just swerve while driving, if the tone changes with turning, its usually the outside bearing. We confirm with a stethoscope on the hoist.

I regret bringing up packing bearings. I’ve only done that with bicycle bearings. I brought it up as an example where audible inspection did not work.

In any case, the bearings are dry and rely on pressure? Wut? Air pressure? The koyo wheel bearings look like standard sealed maintenance free bearings that have grease inside them analogous to ball joints without zerks.

Torque, they need clamping pressure to work due to being tapered on the front.

Ok, but you aren't saying pressure replaces the need for lubrication no?

I guess? but they are considered sealed and no maintenance. So the seals and pressure eliminate the need for re-greasing and adjustments.

The rear axle bearings are non serviceable and are floating style bearing with no pressure. They are meant to be kept dry as well.

It's been a long time since I was in school for bearings lol

I don’t think we are disagreeing. I think it’s just a difference in terminology.
