    Thanks for the breakdown image.
I'm going to have to do the same to get my hidden receiver in......maybe the bumper. (Would be nice if I can avoid that)
And that picture is why it isn't in, yet. lol

Oh there will be some mods all right
Toyota takes me registering my 4Runner in the app and trying to get remote connect services more seriously than if I were to try and sign up for a $20,000 credit card. Holy shit lol. I sent them the purchase contract with the dealership and apparently that wasn't enough to satisfy their needs so thankfully the registration showed up today and I could send them that. I just want my remote start!!!!!

Thats why my truck is in the garage today. Covered in mud, but not salt. Drives my wife nuts that I won't drive it in the winter...

Speaking of remote start, I did get my after-market kit installed last Sunday. Been meaning to do a write up here for those who were interested. I'll get on that pretty soon.

That would be correct as I don't have to use Connected Services and share my location and all kinds of other info with Toyota.

However... I just did some searching here to see if anyone else had already written up an install and/or review of the product I got, and I've just gotten myself confused and frustrated with the wide variety of (mis)information about remote start on our trucks. Maybe some of you guys here can test out some of the theories or maybe @CygnusX191 can confirm or deny some of this.

It seems, from what I'm finding, and there are conflicting reports, that trucks that were equipped with Connected Services AND a premium audio package already have the fob remote starter option. My truck has a technology package, but not premium audio. Mine is a 2020 and I believe all from that year on (maybe earlier too) had one free year of Connected Services. If you have an SOS button in the truck, you have/had Connected Services. I never signed up for any of that and just wanted to live happily with my Android Audio and had no desire for remote start when I bought it new. Other people have conflicting stories saying that even without using those services with your phone or having a paid subscription you should be able to start the truck with the fob (not with the phone) for a 3 or 10 year period. I honestly don't see how that could then be shut off, but what do I know...

So, I think I will unplug my new after market module and try to start it with my fob. If it works, the $160 kit goes back. I suspect it won't. I probably won't get to this until this weekend.

Here's something you guys can try to maybe shed some clarity on this. Try to start your truck with the procedure below and report back with your year, trim level, if you have a premium package, and if this worked to start your truck. Maybe we'll be surprised at how many of us had it and didn't know it.

    To start with your fob:
    1. Truck is off
    2. Lock truck with fob if it wasn't already locked and wait 1 minute
    3. Press the lock button
    4. Press the lock button again within a few seconds
    5. Press the lock button a third time and hold it for 3-5 seconds
    6. Give the truck 10 seconds or so and see if it starts

I think this will be an interesting experiment if we get some participation. If an after market kit is needed for most or all trucks that don't meet certain requirements, I'd have to say that what I got was really an easy install. I'll hold off on my full review and install guide after I learn if I will be returning it because I didn't need it.

UPS pulled up in front of the house.
    Beeped.
Dropped off a pkg at the door.
Then went to the back of his truck and pulled out these 4 brand new tires.........and walked them over to the house across the street.

I got home from work last night and there was a big yellow box on the front deck. It said Dewalt.
Glad we don't have porch pirates out in the country

I'm annoyed because UPS has had one of my Black Friday purchases traversing around three different states but its place of origin was only 20 mi from me. I only did the shipping thing because it was free and I said what the hey. It'll be at my house/ apartment in like 2 days without me making an effort.

I don't know what audio pkg I have but I tried your experiment this morning.

The 2016 TRD OR did not start.

Remote start wasn't a thing in Tacos until the 2020 update

And even then.... Toyota weren't consistent with it.
