    Unfortunately true.

I was headed to a service call on a production machine, as I walked up the line an absolutely useless ding-bat of a girl (age 40 +) delightedly said:
"Yay!! We might get to go home!!!"

In the same bright tone I replied:
"Yay!! We might get to be here Saturday for straight time!!!"

For some reason she immediately shut the :censored: up. :notsure:

I never will understand the worker idea of "getting to" go home -- the whole object of coming to work is getting paid isn't it??

    On that same thought:

We had several production lines, sometimes the work for one might be caught up and we would give the workers the option to leave - if they wanted their hours we would have them clean or do projects.

The people on the lines that had work would be angry that they "got to" go home.

Again, you are here making money - they aren't.:confused::confused:

If they could prove gross negligence, then maybe. If was truly an accident, they can't make you pay for it as an employee.

At least, that's how it is in Ohio.

i always tell people, i save money just by going to work. the most expensive place i can be is at home. i have projects everywhere, and not a single one of them can be done for free.

i've got a coworker that's like that though. he's the first to go home if he can, and randomly just doesn't show up for work every couple weeks. we have a 7-point system to getting suspended and then fired, 1 day missed is 1 point, that then resets after so many hours worked. the bosses know week-to-week how many points he has, floating so close to the limit...

the same guy has been making a massive big deal about buying a house this year (he's the first ever person in the world to become a homeowner!), and then how tight money is all the time, but he's getting door dash to deliver coffee to work every other day, and goes out for lunch every single day, if he shows up. the other week, HR came through and we all had to fill out the 2025 insurance packets. he made a huge show out of how 'if i sign up for insurance, i can't afford my house payment!'... company insurance is $50/paycheck. i couldn't fathom running so close to my pay to even have to consider this...

Agree, I have heard the same stories 100's of times over the years - faces change, the script is always the same.

I spent some quality time with this oldie today. Slow but reliable - kind of like me.
    :turtleride:
The one in the back is older, I actually like that one better, the center on the newer one (only 40 years or so old) is slightly smaller and would fit the wheels on the van.

No call no show should be grounds for immediate dismissal unless there’s a mitigating circumstance.

Self victimization and pity is a horrible thing to witness..

A while back, I once read that Walmart has a typical call-off rate of 2% per day, which works out to 1-2 employees calling off, every single day.

The amount of people that just can't show up to work never ceases to amaze me.

The guy at my work has got more issues than back to back Maury and Springer season finales.

I'm glossing over a lot of it for some of the main highlights, but much of it is done for the wrong kind of attention on his part.

At first it seemed bad, but now it's literally self inflicted entertainment for the rest of the shop. And when it's self inflicted, it becomes hard to feel sorry for him.

There are people who genuinely were dealt a bad card in life, and are making deliberate changes to deal with the consequences while also putting forth the effort to make their situation better. And this guy isn't that.

It's always a dangerous game. Same as when I was on church council, as part of the group that fielded some of the calls with people asking for help from churches. Some really do just need a little help and desperately want something better. and I couldn't have been happier to have helped those people with what they needed to make progress towards those changes.

But the vast majority are black holes of emptiness, where no matter the type of help, it all just gets sucked up and demanding for more, at an ever increasing rate.

Unfortunately that's a difference that can only be learned the hard way though.

Morning crew, I got into the machine shop last couple of days. Dropped my skeletool in the mud had to clean up. Got banding guns jammed and unjammed. Dropped skeletool again. And finally cleaned it up with water blew dry with air gun and lubed up for rust.
Got the pile of coils stacked for transfer to the grinder pile.
Best sign of recovery is they started a PVC extruder line on Tuesday but shut it down on Wednesday, something wasn't right. They plan on firing up all 4 lines in the building on Monday :fingerscrossed:.
Y'all have a great day and stay safe and warm.

Some have an epiphany, such as ‘hitting rock bottom’ and it’s learned very quickly. Can be an amazing transformation but only time’ll tell.

Good morning everyone :hattip: Hope you have a good day.
