How to: DIY Wedge Camper

Got the basic outline of the canvas done. Mounted up some of the keder rail already, just have to finish up the rest and then I can roughly add the canvas to pull it taught and start sewing!

 

Welding jig built! Steel is cut. Waiting on sendcutsend and need to find a mobile welder.

 

Curious about the machined end pieces, where did you get them?

 

I have a buddy with a CNC machine. We are working with Ripcord to beta test V2.5

I am looking to make this as i have a rear tire carrier on swing out wanted to see if extending this out would be beneficial, also I may make this a pop up vs wedge. Thoughts Pros and Cons. I calculate all the structure seen her to be <200 lbs from Aluminum extrusions, does anyone have a weight on the 80 series extrusions for roughly the same structure?

 

Want to utilize this area as best i can

 

Tnutz.com has weights per foot in the description of their extrusion, depending on what size extrusion you go with. Might be able to use that as an estimate for the total weight

 

I have the weight for each aluminum extrusion I was looking to see what the 80-20 version is, based on my spreadsheet the design I have is about 188 lbs without fittings and top/lower panels as i am not sure what I will use the sign board or something else.

 

Anyone able to do this?

 

Frame all welded up

 

First trip in the camper with the tent on was a success! All I could’ve asked for, been a long process but it’s nice to see the fruits of my labor. Pulling the canvas back off soon to finish some of the extras but love it! My only real issue has been the corners where the tent fabric meets. How’d you connect the 2 at the end of the keder?

Im in the market for a roof rack, i know some have used sherpa and some have used martin offroad. Which did you choose and why? On the martin offroad, they have a few camper options, which one did you select?

 

Getting this organization thing figured out

Duluth seat back organizer, riv nuts in the frame, grommets, and a bolt through.

Elastic net held in with riveted d rings and carabiners. Will probably go to a tighter net in the future, but we’ll see how this rolls

 

Tons of camper projects going on lately . Took the canvas back down to add an awning and rain skirt. Should be the LAST time the canvas is off. Gonna play with longer awning rods to pull the sides more taught. Instead of matching the heavy tent material I went with a nylon ripstop.


To save some headache, I found a company @AsgOffroad that makes awning rod holders, rear camera brackets, and utility hooks that fit perfect with the 15 series extrusion. They are meant to fit GFC’s/Super Pacific’s, but adapted easy with different slot nuts.



Paper templates made it much easier to size the awning and get the angles right.

 

I love this, whered you get the rods

 

I got mine from 4WP. ARB awning rods. Super cheap.

 

Mine came with the kit from from ASGOffroad, but they measure identical to the ARB ones. 31.5”, and 5(ish)mm diameter. They are super cheap, but expect to pay a quadruple the price in shipping lol.

 

Does anyone know when the V2.5 will be released, or if it is at all? Looking to build my setup during the winter...
