Turning radius...why so crappy? (and screen glare)

I finally test drove one (TRD OR Premium, non-hybrid) and from the left turn lane, making a u-turn onto a road with 2 lanes, I had to stop and back up, to avoid hitting the curb. That's sad (or I don't know, maybe this street had abnormally wide lanes).

The factory specs say 44.1' turning diameter (3rd gen is 40.6') and I think urban road widths vary from 10-12 feet per lane, so I guess it would just make the u-turn on some 2 lane roads but not all?

The only other complaint I had from this test drive is that the sun glare on the 14" screen made it unreadable at times. Is there a film that can be applied to reduce the glare?

But on a positive note, I really don't understand how anyone could complain about the power/acceleration compared to a 3rd gen.

Agree totally...213" long 2024 truck vs. 208" for my Gen2. Crew cabs both.

Why they didn't put matte screens on all of them I have no idea.

Why is it $60 for just the film for the 8" screen? That's easily double most of the other ones I've seen.

 

I went from a 2007 Titan to a 2021 Titan, and despite the newer frame supposedly being similar to the older frame, the turning radius went from decent to noticeably worse. It gained an extra 2.4' of radius.

Since I regularly work on both trucks, I could see that the newer truck had very obvious, heavy structures behind the front wheels inside the wheel wells, obviously there for crash protection.

I suspect it's the same reason here, as I see this complaint on most newer trucks I have researched.

I guess you'll appreciate it if you ever need it!

 

Yea the Turn radius on my long bed is bigger than my 19 Tundra.

 

I also have the screenprotech on my screen, instrument cluster, etc, all the clear plastics...
didn't go the mat route, went the HD route & zero issues with glare.
my windows are tinted so there's that...

 

I suspect it has to do with the tundra sized axles that the 4th gen is hiding.

 

You get what you pay for

 

its for the infotainment screen, instrument cluster, climate control & all the little various other plastics associated with it, the shift postion indicator...
Its a quality product, & their customer service is UNREAL!!!!

Put the screen into dark mode, and as others said the screen protect matt is awesome. turning radius meh not worried about that to much.

 

Don't make any turns problem solved.

I'd suggest the Ranger Super Duty, but that won't be sold here. I believe it's also an 8 lug, not a 10 lug like 450/4500 those things have a great lock to lock ratio. If you hate driving a fullsize due to it's lack of maneuverability, you might not like the 4G so much. I reckon the 4G is still more agile than any fullsize 1/2 ton.

 

Oh, that's for everything. I thought I was selecting just for the infotainment screen. $60 for all that actually sounds about right.

 

I installed this glass screen protector in matte. Made a massive difference in glare management. Was ~$30. I forget the link and whether it was here or on Tacoma4G but someone had linked a video where the presenter installed the gloss and the matte to their truck so you could see the real difference.
