when doing my oil - i saw a line dangling (looked like dirtbike fuel line drip line) but it has a frayed end and i thought normal, now im thinking its a little breather or vent link supposed to be on nipple on top of tcase?

my truck shifts in and out of 4x4 perfect but if this isnt supposed to be hanging i was hoping someone could confirm my suspicion

    thank you

not my pics but looks like same line

some people say its actually short hose, nipple to nipple on top of tcase?

im going to get a better pic later, looks like one end dried and cracked and then came off the nipple and is now dangling right under my tcase

hope i can access where it goes and fix it

    It's just a vent line.
But it DOES need to be fixed.

The majority of 4WD failures on these trucks are do to water intrusion into the actuator.
If the vent hose gets dissconted (like yours) it can/will allow water in and corrode the inner circuitry of the actuator.

so you think i can get it to reach that nipple and ill zip tie what i can of it on there, snipped end perhaps? my coworker said the hose probably goes over the top to reach it (obv)

^That's a recycled picture from another thread. Just focus on the vent hose. Do not block the nipple as that can cause malfunctions, blow seals, etc. The vent hose is the same common size as washer fluid hose, so it can use the same size generic parts store unions and elbow fittings if the existing hose is damaged and need to be spliced farther downstream.
