that starter is OEM and came off my 2013 after this...

    Puddle.jpg

took it off (which is fork in the eye level fun), took it apart and cleaned it out (commutator and brushes are fine), but it still needs either some new soleniod contacts or just take some sand paper to the surfaces of the contacts so the plunger makes a solid connection.

that starter should work fine for you. just like CVs, you are usually better off to keep rebuilding the OEM vs getting a cheap replacement. the solenoid contacts are super cheap and easy to get as they are somewhat generic.

Im not looking forward to removing the starter.

The car seems to always start by the 3rd try so its fine to get me around town for a week or so.

The strange thing is i don't think my starter was actually under water. And it started fine probably 10 times after the incident. it wasn't until the engine got all dry in the garage before i had issues.

I don't know if it will matter. When I needed a starter I went to "starters and alternators" and the guy just picked the one that looked the closest to mine and said " it's a little bigger but should work"
Talk about a tight fit but it's still kicking years later.

I'm putting these honkers on the truck, one on the other side as well. I'd like to put a (wireless) switch panel in the truck to control them and any other future lights/attributes.
    Any recommendations for this?
Also, I'm thinking about putting in a separate fusebox for all additional stuff so that I don't mess with existing wiring - does that make sense?
I've seen some of the setups here, but there are so many options, I'm not sure where to start.

not sure about the wireless switches but the aux beam or switch pro stuff is a good all in unit with fuses and switches ready to go. As someone who has reworked their wiring a bunch of times it’s the easiest.

I have always been weary of those systems because it has a mother board that I worry will corrode or have issues. Because of that I use blue sea marine grade stuff. Downfall to it is it’s bulky, has lots more wiring, and won’t be as clean as the setup posted. Many have been using the aux beam style for a while without issue.

^So the 5.7L also needs a manifold air injection system to remain smog compliant. Those valves near the firewall look more interesting to replace than the 4.0L's...

@Shveet has a pretty sweet wiring setup, ditchlights too. He may be able to provide some recommendations.

I can’t believe you guys don’t get the Shake Down with ditch lights.
Removed mine when a Cop moved in at the end of the block & tagged me for an extension cord @-40. I’m putting them back on now but really holding my breath. These are pretty inconspicuous but it’s like a magnet around here for ditchers.
